After 25 years, Streets of Rage, the legendary '90s side-scrolling beat-'em-up arcade, will make its return with a fourth installment.

As a teaser, a trailer for Streets of Rage 4 has been released, featuring stars Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding as they battle crime in several cities. There were notable changes to Stone, who is now bearded, while Fielding is now versatile when it comes to fighting.

Known in Japan as Bare Knuckle, Streets of Rage had a successful run in the '90s as Sega's one of the most favorite arcade games due to its radical rights, '90s music, and classy design of sparring gloves and bandanas. Because of its popularity, Streets of Rage had three successful installments before it went into a 25-year hibernation. However, Sega decided to give it a try after interest in classic 2D games grew. Recently, the interest in 2D games fueled the multiple revivals of Double Dragon.

'Streets of Rage 4' Features New Storyline

The game, created with the help of publisher DotEmu and developers LizardCube and Guard Crush Game, features a new storyline and excellent visuals. LizardCube and DotEmu are the developers behind the Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap, while Guard Crush Games' brainchild is the Streets of Fury. Recently, DotEmu announced the sequel to another classic game, Windjammers 2.

On its website, DotEmu said Streets of Rage 4 will continue the classic trilogy gameplay, but this time, the latest edition will have new mechanics, a series of dangerous stages with serious crime problem and an interesting storyline, which will entice old and new players alike.

New Soundtrack To Keep Adrenaline Going

Also, Streets of Rage 4 will retain the classic gameplay look, but Guard Crush Games and DotEmu made sure that the game's original arcade-style romp will stay. The latest soundtrack could also help players keep their adrenaline going as they try to complete the interesting stages.

It has yet to be known if other characters, such as Adam Hunter, Eddie "Skate" Hunter, and Max Thunder will also make their return to the fourth installment of Streets of Rage 4. Also, Sega did not mention which platforms the game will appear on, but Nintendo Switch and PC users could likely enjoy Streets of Rage 4. Players are also hoping that the latest game will be available on Xbox One and PlayStation 4.

All these questions will be answered when Sega announces the exact date of its release. As of now, there's no official word when Streets of Rage 4 will be available in the market.

Here is the trailer for the new Streets of Rage 4.
