A Red Dead Redemption 2 demo exclusively shown to Gamestop employees received mixed reviews, bringing the status of the highly anticipated game into limbo.

The negative side of the reactions by Gamestop employees may be bad news to fans of the Wild West action franchise, but there remains hope that the game will exceed expectations.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Demo Put Some Gamestop Employees To Sleep

Gamestop employees attending the 2018 GME Conference in Indianapolis were treated to an exclusive look at a new Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer. Unfortunately, developer Rockstar Games might not be getting the reactions that it wanted.

No footage from the Red Dead Redemption 2 demo has surfaced online, but Gamestop employees in attendance have voiced their opinions about the trailer in different forums, such as on Reddit.

According to the reviews on pair of Reddit threads, Red Dead Redemption 2, in terms of visuals, looked great. Some scenes shown in the demo included a shootout after a bank heist, and apparently, lots of riding on horses.

The reactions of some Gamestop employees, however, were more negative, claiming that the Red Dead Redemption 2 demo was "really dry" and "boring," with others saying that the video put them to sleep. In fact, the game was even described as "Rockstar Equestrian Simulator 2k19."

To be fair though, the Red Dead Redemption 2 trailer was the last thing that was shown to Gamestop employees, which meant that they were already tired from a long and busy week. The exhaustion may have played a part in the negative reactions toward the demo, which is hard to gauge because it has not been shown to anyone else.

Red Dead Redemption 2 Release Date

The Red Dead Redemption 2 release date was initially set for fall 2017, but it was later delayed to spring 2018, and then again pushed back to Oct. 26.

There will be three Red Dead Redemption 2 special editions, namely the Special Edition at $79.99, the Ultimate Edition at $99.99, and the Collector's Box also at $99.99. The third edition, however, does not come with a copy of the game.

Red Dead Redemption 2 is expected to be one of this year's biggest video game releases. It has even scared Electronic Arts into moving the Battlefield V release date from Oct. 19 to Nov. 20, especially with Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 also launching on Oct. 12.

It remains to be seen, however, if Red Dead Redemption 2 will really be able to live up to the hype.
