Twitter is back online after it went down for many mobile users accessing the microblogging platform through the official Android app after someone at Twitter accidentally set the clocks to Dec. 29, 2015.

Android users who cannot get access to their daily dose of tweets have flocked to Reddit to complain about the time warp bug that had Twitter thinking it is one year ahead of the rest of the world. One user nicknamed IrrespectiveOfOthers posted the following on Reddit:

"I'm sitting beside a Twitter employee... he was wondering why he was logged out of his Android account. He just logged in through his corporate laptop and it's working for him there. Twitter is aware people are being forcefully logged out."

A look at Twitter's response headers at twitter.com shows a time stamp dated Monday, Dec. 29, 2015, 02:09:37 UTC.

Twitter says it is aware of the problem and has its staff working on it right away.

"Some users are currently having trouble signing in to Twitter," says Twitter on its Status Blog. "Our engineers are currently working to resolve this."

Reddit user IrrespectiveOfOthers says the unnamed Twitter employee claims some 40 percent of all Android app users can log in to their Twitter accounts as of 8:55 P.M. Eastern Time.

"Edit: He says the success rate in Sacramento is now 20 percent. Which is an improvement. Didn't work for him though. (I don't know what the significance of Sacramento is, that isn't where we are.

Edit: 40 percent now."

It appears, however, that Twitter's log-in problems are not limited to users using the official Twitter app for Android. Twitter for web is also down at the moment, although Reddit user IrrespectiveOfOthers' source says Twitter for web should be working right now. Currently, signing in to Twitter brings back the message: "Twitter is currently down for maintenance. We expect to be back shortly. For more information, check out Twitter Status. Thanks for your patience!"

Third-party applications such as Echofon and Twitterific also have their users complaining that they cannot log in to the platform. Tweetdeck appears to be working fine, but users say their latest tweets are dated 365 days ago.

The only one that appears to be unaffected by the virtual time warp are Apple's devices. Users report they can log in to their Twitter accounts via their Mac or iPhones, although a few users have reported they are locked out of Twitter when they try to access it on their iPads.

Twitter currently has 284 million active monthly users. In its latest quarterly earnings report, Twitter reported a 114 percent increase in revenue of $361 million but posted a net loss of $175 million.
