The webOS, the mobile device operating system, will resurrect from the dead and is expected to appear in an LG TV.

WebOS was originally developed by Palm in 2009. In 2010, Hewlett Packard (HP) acquired Palm and used webOS in its own tablets and smartphones. As the operating system failed to get traction in the mobile device industry, HP sold webOS to LG in February 2013. Now LG is expected to use the Linux-based webOS in its smart TVs.

Previous reports suggests that the South Korean TV maker will launch its webOS TV at the 2014 International CES, which starts on January 7 in Las Vegas.

Rumors are doing the rounds once again and this time @evleaks has leaked a picture of a webOS LG TV, which promises a stellar resurrection of the once dead operating system. If rumors are to be believed, then the upcoming LG TV will be the first of its kind to run on webOS.

The leaked image of the webOS LG TV suggests that it will have a thin profile. The rumored TV may include a variety of pre-installed apps. The shortcuts for Facebook, Skype, YouTube, Accu Weather, Twitter, vTuner, an Internet browser and LG's own SmartShare app are seen on an app strip at the bottom of the screen.

The upcoming LG TV is speculated to have a 2.2GHz dual-core processor with 1.5GB of RAM. The TV is also said to include apps based on the webOS Enyo platform.

LG may initially use webOS in its smart TVs but rumors also say that the company may deploy the operating system in its future mobile devices as well.

The South Korean company has not yet confirmed any specifications, pricing or availability of the webOS TV, but is expected to announce more details at the 2014 International CES.
