OnePlus 7T
(Photo : OnePlus) Comparing the OnePlus 7T with the OnePlus 7 Pro leads to the conclusion that the "Pro" label isn't just a name.

The rumors and leaks are done, and now the OnePlus 7T has an official release date, but the question is whether it's an upgrade or not over the previous-generation phones of the company.

The OnePlus 7T isn't exactly the direct successor to the OnePlus 7 Pro, though. It's more like the successor to the OnePlus 7, but that one didn't land on U.S. shores. At that, it makes more sense to compare the OnePlus 7T with the OnePlus 7 Pro for users in the country.

OnePlus 7T vs. OnePlus 7 Pro

The OnePlus 7T sports a 6.55-inch AMOLED display (2,400 x 1,080, 402 ppi) with HDR10+ support and a refresh rate of 90 Hz, while the OnePlus 7 Pro has a 6.67-inch AMOLED display (3,120 x 1,440, 516 ppi) with the same HDR10+ support and 90 Hz refresh rate.

Under the hood, the T model has a newer Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 Plus paired with 8 GB of RAM. On the other hand, the Pro smartphone has a Snapdragon 855 coupled with either 6, 8, or 12 GB of RAM. Both come in 128 or 256 GB storage options.

The OnePlus 7T runs on Android 10 with OxygenOS 10 on top. Meanwhile, the OnePlus 7 Pro shipped with Android 9 Pie, but it's already upgradeable to Android 10. The OnePlus 7 Pro has a larger battery capacity of 4,000 mAh too, as opposed to the OnePlus 7T's 3,800 mAh battery. They both support a charging rate of 30W. The two also boast a USB-C port, but there's no 3.5 mm headphone jack in sight in both smartphones.

In the camera department, the OnePlus 7T has a triple setup that consists of 48-megapixel wide, 12-megapixel telephoto, and 16-megapixel ultrawide lenses, all of which are in a round circular housing on the back. It has a 16-megapixel snapper on the front. Now the OnePlus 7 Pro has a similar setup: 48-megapixel wide, 8-megapixel telephoto, and 16-megapixel ultrawide lenses. It has a motorized pop-up camera with 16 megapixels for its selfie camera, allowing the phone to come without a notch of any sort.

The OnePlus 7 Pro starts at $669, while the OnePlus 7T will be available at $599 on Oct. 18.

Conclusion

To sum things up, the OnePlus 7 Pro still has the better screen and features, such as its motorized front camera. Put differently, the OnePlus 7T isn't an upgrade over the OnePlus 7 Pro. The only advantages it really has are its slightly newer processor and Android 10 out of the box, but that's pretty much it. Of course, that isn't surprising, since it's at a more affordable price point, after all.

The story will likely be different with the rumored OnePlus 7T Pro, but that's all it is at this point: a rumor.
