Apple has announced that they will be hosting an event this Dec. 2, although the exact location and time of the event are yet to be announced, with even the initial invites sent out to the media are a little vague.

However, the event is rather odd for two things: firstly, Apple often hold events during the fall season, according to Forbes, such as the October launch for the iPad Pro, and second of all, it seems like the tech giant won't be highlighting any of their new products soon.

The Apple December event will be to honor their favorite apps and games for this year.

A Leaked Invitation

An invitation to the event was uploaded on Twitter, and although lacking more information, revealed that it would be to "honor" the company's favorites games and apps this year.

Unlike previous Apple events, there doesn't seem to be any big announcement when it comes to hardware, most especially since they have done the big reveals for their primary products for this year: the MacBook Pro 16-inches and the Apple AirPods Pro on more private and small-scale events.

Although unusual, it's not surprising for Apple to be holding an event that's mainly for apps and games.

The "Best of" Awards

Last year, the company held the "Best of" awards for apps and games, but this is the first time that there will be an event, especially for it.

Moor Insights president and analyst Patrick Moorhead was surprised by the event, saying he wasn't sure why the tech company felt like it was necessary to hold such an event.

Nonetheless, Moorhead also suggested that this might be because Apple had been struggling with the performance of their apps and games, and holding the December event can help improve things.

He wasn't alone on that notion, seeing as Ovum analyst Daniel Gleeson was also surprised by the sudden announcement of the event, but that he believes it can boost the game-streaming service, Apple Arcade, that the company released this year.

Will Apple Announce the Newest iPad Pro?

However, some are still hoping that the event will somehow talk about the seemingly forgotten upgrade of the iPad Pro, seeing as the current version was released last year.

It was reported last August that Apple is working on the newer version of the iPad Pro that will come in a 12.9-inch and 11-inch devices, and will have upgraded processors and cameras.

It is still unsure whether we will hear from Apple about that or any new hardware that they might be working on.

As of now, the event is not yet listed on Apple's official website, according to a report by The Verge.
