While a lot of people still use other instant messaging clients such as WhatsApp, Viber, or even Facebook Messenger, the undisputed king is still Telegram. Because of its focus on safety, privacy, and innovation (all of which Telegram's founder likes to brag multiple times), it's no wonder that Telegram is the preferred messaging client by the tech-savvy.

Here's a list of some Telegram features that you should be using (if you're still not using them). If you haven't made the switch yet, then these features might convince you to.

1) Separate work from home with multiple accounts

The bane of other messaging applications is that its almost always all-or-nothing. It's hard to separate your work from your personal life when professional contacts can see that you're recently online. They might think that since you're online on that particular messaging app, they can send you emails related to work. And as much as we want not to reply, it is expected nowadays to reply when you see the message.

With Multiple Accounts, you can easily switch between your work and personal numbers and profiles easily. As long as you're on one number, your online presence won't be updated on the other. So when you say that you can only be reached until 6 P.M, your boss will be sure that you haven't checked your phone recently.

2) Changing numbers? No need to back anything up.

In other messaging apps, your account is tied to your phone number. If you decide to change your phone number, the app will delete all existing media and messages, and you'll have to restore them manually with a backup file. Not so in Telegram, where you can easily change your phone number and not lose anything in the process, it is possible because all of your data is in their secure cloud server, so it doesn't have to retrieve anything from your phone.

3) Theme it up

The best thing about Telegram is how much customization there is for chat channels.

You can control what kind of background you want. You can opt if you want a solid color to have a clean interface, or add texture into it by adding patterns. You can also choose to use any image. Telegram themselves provides a large number of free backgrounds, some with blurred versions to make it less distracting. They also have backgrounds that move when your phone detects motion—very cool.

There are three types of themes available: Mono, which lets you choose a theme color; dark, which uses a... well...dark theme; and Arctic, for those who like clean white look. The themes can be further customized by choosing a color, which changes the colors of the chat bubbles and subtly changes the color of the accents too.

4) Get comfy with your phone at night with Auto-Night Mode

We know how painful it is when you're looking at the memes your friend sent you in the middle of the night and your phone uses bright themes. Good thing, Telegram has an Auto-Night Mode. It has two modes: Scheduled and Adaptive.

Scheduled automatically changes your Telegram theme depending on what you put on the timer. Adaptive uses your phone's light sensor to determine when it'll use dark mode instead.

5) Pick who sees what with Privacy Controls

Telegram's claim to fame is its security and privacy settings. Each individual can choose just how much info anyone else can see. There are three settings for each category: Everybody, My Contacts, and Nobody. However, you can also add exceptions to the rule.

For example, you can choose that Nobody except your wife/husband can see your Last Seen & Online status.
