Just when you thought the coronavirus couldn't get any much worse, experts say it could be much deadlier. Sars is one of the deadliest viruses known to man, and unfortunately for us, the coronavirus is much worse.

What Does The Research Say?

Several studies of the coronavirus have been done in the past few months to combat its effects in our dwindling population. Particularly studies about how long pathogens from the same family, like Sars, could stay in the host.

Research has shown that on average, people with the coronavirus or SARS-CoV-2 can expel or "shed" virus particles for over a period of 20 days, spreading it even more before symptoms start to appear within the host.

What Do The Researchers Suggest We Do?

To start, we need to begin more extended quarantines as this study proves that even though you may think you are safe from the disease, that is not the case, and even if you are cleared of infection, think again. A team from China-Japan Friendship Hospital, which also included China National Health Commission expert Cao Bin has said.

Cao Bin had an interview with Caixin magazine on March 11. It said that "A period of 20 days completely exceeds the expected viral shedding duration for acute respiratory virus infections," and added, "The relatively longer viral shedding duration means longer antiviral treatment time and quarantine period are needed."

Proof of Severity of COVID-19 Over Sars

The contagious nature of the COVID-19 is indicated in the study as well. It reflects from the growing number of cases globally despite health officials stating that it's dwindling. As of Thursday, COVID-19 had infected over 200,000 people in over 172 countries and has a fatality close to 9,000.

Another study indicated that over 44 percent of the transmissions could occur before the infected individual shows any signs or symptoms; this is the same pattern but more severe than that of Sars.

The study involved over 94 patients in Guangzhou, stated that containing the virus was more difficult due to the high rate of transmissions before the symptoms were evident.

"Contact tracing and isolation alone are less likely to be successful if more than 30 percent of transmission occurred before symptom onset,"

"With a substantial proportion of pre-symptomatic transmission, measures such as enhanced personal hygiene among the general population and social distancing would likely be the key instruments for disease control in the community."

What To Do Now?

If you know that you are infected or rather know that you came close to someone infected, you should quarantine yourself or get yourself checked right away with the available kits given out to test if you have the virus and make sure that you don't infect anyone else. Inform local authorities right away and take charge of the situation.
