Despite of current world circumstances, the NBA League is still bringing the game to people's screens as they launch a players-only 2K20 esport tournament which will be televised on Friday, April 3. Superstars Kevin Durant of the Brooklyn Nets and Trae Young of the Atlanta Hawks will be leading the 2K20 E-Sport Competition, which is purposely to continue the current NBA season that was cancelled due to the COVID-19 epidemic.

Kevin Durrant is at the top of the roster for the first players-only 2K20 esports tournament.

The esport tournament will be played by selected 16 NBA Stars which will be covered by ESPN. It will be a 1-versus-1 match of the players which will eliminate them one by one until the top seed of the battle reigns.

The competition between the current superstars of the NBA will make a large impact on the game, not only with its millions of fans but also with its players.

Kevin Durant said that this will be a very meaningful game because it will symbolize how close he has become with the league since he suffered a damaged Achilles tendon while playing for his former team, the Golden State Warriors, last year.  Durant also gave his Brooklyn Net fans a heads up on the tournament roster in a tweet on April 1.

Meanwhile, a tweet by sports website The Boardroom shows that Durant is on the top spot of the roster followed by Trae Young and Hassan Whiteside on the second and third spot, respectively.

Durant will have his first match up against Derrick Jones Jr. who is the 16th seed in the game. Trae Young, on the other hand, will battle against Harrison Barnes sticking to the 15th spot of the line up. Other athletes who will be playing during the first round are the following:

  • 4th: Donovan Mitchell, Utah Jazz
  • 5th: Devin Booker, Phoenix Suns
  • 6th: Andre Drummond, Cleveland Cavaliers
  • 7th: Zach LaVine, Chicago Bulls
  • 8th: Montrezl Harrell, Los Angeles Clippers
  • 9th: Domantas Sabonis, Indiana Pacers
  • 10th: Deandre Ayton, Phoenix Suns
  • 11th: DeMarcus Cousins, free agent
  • 12th: Michael Porter Jr., Denver Nuggets
  • 13th: Rui Hachimura, Washington Wizards
  • 14th: Patrick Beverley, Los Angeles Clippers

NBA lives up to their tagline "This is Why We Play"

In the announcement of ESPN and the NBA, one NBA official described the tournament as an effort to stay connected with loyal NBA fans worldwide, and also to give back to the community in this time of need.

The official page of the game posted that the winner will donate the grand prize of $100,000 to a charity of their choice--aside from being crowned the NBA 2K20 Champion. This will be the first players-only NBA 2K20 Competition.
