If saving enough cash to finally splurge on that trip to Tahiti you've been dreaming about is on your New Year's resolutions list, then look no further than these helpful tips and apps that can help you stay on top of your finances and help you save a buck or two. Before you know it, you may just find yourself not only in financial and credit freedom, but also sipping that Pina Colada by the sea this 2015.

Many of us let our budget get away with us. With any luck, these tricks will help us stay financially responsible all throughout the year.

Money Management Apps

Make most of the available technology to monitor your expenses and creating a budget.

You have mobile apps such as the old and reliable PayPal and Google Wallet. More than just a way to pay online merchants, Paypal's app allows you to link to your bank accounts to inquire about your balance, and make transfers. Many establishments even accept payments right from the app so no need to pull out your credit card or make a trip to the ATM. Google Wallet allows you to transfer money easily to anyone with a free gmail account in the United States. And if you've ordered the free Google Wallet card, you can check your balance just like it was a debit card.

Other money management apps you might want to try are Mint, Expensify, Level Money, Slice and Square Cash. These apps are all free.

Protect your Phones

For many of us, our phones more than our PC's contain more of our personal data. Therefore, it is best to password protect your smartphones and ensure you always send your data over secured, trusted, wifi connections and networks, especially if you do financial transactions or use banking and money apps from your everyday phone.

Cut out things you don't need

We mean everything from apps to extra bottles of water to even gym memberships that you know you're never going to use. Yes, even though we know getting back into shape is part of your New Year's resolutions too, do you really need to pay a hundred dollars a month to sweat in a gym?

Empty your pockets and bags for loose change

You'll be surprised at how all those pennies and quarters add up to a good deal of cash when you take the time to cash them in.

Call your credit card company

Did you know that many people can get your interest rates cut down just by calling your credit card company and asking them to? As long as you have been consistent in payments and have a good credit score, they should be happy to oblige. So what are you waiting for? Make the call!

Put aside a little bit every time you get your paycheck - and don't touch the pot!

Our favorite money-saving tip is putting aside either a set amount every time the paycheck comes in - or a higher and higher amount every month. For example, on Jan. 15, you can put aside 10 dollars in a jar or a savings account that you promise not to touch until the end of the year. Then on payday on the 30th, put another 10 dollars in or even 15 dollars. Keep doing this every month and by the end of the year, you'll have enough to treat yourself!
