Gorilla Glass Victus is the newest smartphone glass, which is twice stronger and durable than Gorilla Glass 6, as claimed by Corning. According to Gizmodo's latest report, Corning's new glass protection is one of the most recognized components used to secure the physical status of your mobile device against external damages.

This is not new, though, since all new Gorilla Glass versions always enhance its durability against scratches or drops, but not both. However, Corning claimed that its newest formula for Gorilla Glass Victus will provide both of the protective features.

The giant manufacturer of Gorilla Glass Victus previously focused on just developing just one aspect of its durability feature. When Corning released its Gorilla Glass 3, it claimed that it has 40% fewer scratches compared to Gorilla Glass 2.

And when Gorilla Glass 4 was revealed, the manufacturer said that it was twice as stronger when it came to surviving drops compared to the previous version. In short, Corning continuously improved its Gorilla Glass using the back-and-forth development cycle.

However, there is only one problem. The Gorilla Glass manufacturer explained that the harder the smartphone protection gets, the more brittle it becomes. This means that if the glass protection can withstand scratches, it can easily be shattered when dropped from a high place. The company claimed that people didn't notice the issue and only demanded screen protection that offers both scratch and drops resistance.

How stronger and durable is Gorilla Glass Victus

Corning said that Gorilla Glass Victus offers a significant improvement in both scratches and drop resistance compared to the previous versions. It was claimed that Victus is two times more scratch-resistant compared to Gorilla Glass 6, and offers 25% stronger drop protection.

It can protect smartphones from a 6.5 feet drop without breaking the screen, while Gorilla Glass 6 can only withstand a 5.25 feet drop. Although the giant manufacturer promises these new features, there are still many phones with broken screens, which can be seen before the pandemic forced people in quarantine.

Images have leaked that Corning used a much thicker glass compared to the versions found on an actual retail device. The company also plans to design screen protections that can be used in other gadgets such as tablets, laptops, and even smartwatches.
