Riot Games announced that it would temporarily halt its operations for one week to give its employees a week off during the ongoing pandemic. According to Engadget's latest report, the game publisher announced on its official website that it would primarily be inactive on Aug. 10.

Riot Games wrote on its blog post that the company would "disconnect, recharge, and reboot" to give its employees a week off. The giant game publisher is active during the ongoing pandemic, releasing new games such as Valorant, its first online game not included in the League of Legends universe.

Riot Games has also released new updates on the popular team-based strategy game. Engadget previously reported the release of League of Legends: Wild Rift, a 5v5 version of the MOBA that will be playable on mobile devices and consoles. This mobile game was released back in 2019, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of League of Legends.

The famous game publisher also released a chess type game of League of Legends called "Auto Chess Battler Team Fight Tactics." The report confirmed that the chess game would have new sets of champions and abilities every three or four months on mobile and PC. Currently, it has also released a new event called Spirit Blossoms, including new heroes and skins.

Why Riot Games will be inactive for one week

Riot Games stated that their employees are working on so many new games, which is a delicate balance, especially during a pandemic that makes it hard for the staff to separate their "work" and "life."

"As game developers, we're all hyper-aware of the effects of crunch and project-based deadlines," Riot Games wrote.

"We owe it to ourselves and to you to prioritize our health as a team (well, many teams) so we can bring you new experiences long into the future," added the game publisher.

The company also confirmed that it would be adjusting its release timelines and some of the game patches not to be launched to the players at once. Riot Games also explained that some teams would be using their time off to ensure that someone tends the operations.

Game developers are expected to put a considerable amount of hours in the video game industry. Riot Games' employees are also dealing with other issues on Valorant and other new games. One week off might help them ease the pressure, reboot, and then go back to work with more motivation to increase the players' gaming experience.
