Pete Lau is the CEO of OnePlus, the brand that started under Oppo and then became an independent company spreading its product across the United States and Western Europe. Lau's idea of listening to consumer demands gave the company a better grip of the basics compared to other popular brands such as Apple, Google, and Samsung.

Oneplus' founder started as a hardware engineer of Oppo. His interactions with the media revealed that he's a man who is obsessed with details. Lau's unique characteristics became popular in the tech industry, especially when he reviewed a Blu-ray player's logic board, explaining why he was disappointed with the circuitry design.
This attitude of his lead to his idea of creating "the perfect smartphone." He also said that his goal of developing the perfect device is the reason why he left Oppo. He announced that he is planning to start a new and different brand just a month after he left Oppo in November 2013.
Pete Lau worked together with BBK Electronics to make sure that the new company OnePlus, stands out in the industry. The company has offered premium-ranged products through online channels for the past years.

Pete Lau will take a new role as OPLUS Senior Vice President. However, he will remain as the CEO of OnePlus, giving him a dual-role. OPLUS is the mysterious company that completely owns Oppo and has a majority stake in OnePlus, as well as a smaller stake in Realme.

The announcement came just days after Realme revealed its plans for European expansion. It was also speculated that his new goal is to make sure that the three companies will not compete against each other in the same price categories.
Right now, OnePlus 8 Pro and Oppo Find X2 Pro flagships available in the United Kingdom, France, and Germany, have similar specs and price tags. Lau clarified that although BBK Electronics own oppo, Realme, and OnePlus, OPLUS has nothing to do with BBK.
