As the Halloween season is nearing, various spooky masks have flooded the market and online sites. However, there are some distasteful items that Amazon vowed to remove in its U.K. website, particularly some coronavirus-themed masks.

The latex masks are being sold by some sellers from China on the online marketplace for up to £30 ($39) . One parenting group found the masks to be "hugely distasteful" as they resemble a SARS-CoV-2019 virus illustration, but with scary eyes and a mouth with jagged teeth.

In the product description of one of the masks, manufacturers wrote it will leave 'an amazing and lasting impression," but for a wrong reason. Patients Association chief executive Rachel Power hopes the items will be removed quickly.

"These masks show a terrible lapse of judgment by the manufacturers and sellers," Power told The Sun. "I've no doubt the great majority of people will find them hugely distasteful," she said. She added that she cannot imagine many people would wish to wear this mask, which came out just after the COVID-19 death toll worldwide already breached one million.

A spokesperson for Amazon told MailOnline that these items are already being removed. "All sellers must follow our selling guidelines and those who do not will be subject to action including potential removal of their account," the spokesperson said.

Terrible Coronavirus Design

The masks are advertised as "suitable for adults and teenagers." One of the products that still show on Amazon is the YTFU Corona Latex Horror Mask, which is priced for $18.84 by Guangdong, China-based seller, YTFU EU.

The product is advertised to be made of non-toxic and safe material with a "terrible Corona design." The seller also offers free delivery for the masks that are suitable for most teenagers and adults. "This Halloween Horror Mask will give you an amazing and lasting impression," the seller wrote in the listing.

Also, the "Coronavirus Horror Latex Head Mask" that is no longer available was described to have a "natural and realistic appearance" while scaring off children with its creepy look. "This will add a more happy and active atmosphere to you," the seller said.

The seller also wrote in the product description that the latex virus full face mask has enough space to easily put it on or off. It is also highly breathable and does not obscure breathing and vision.

Also, Amazon seller yangqingwen1456 from Zhenjiang, China posted another brand of mask for $37.45. In the ad description of the WWJJTT Halloween coronavirus mask, the seller claims that the mask will attract people's attention when worn at a party. It is made of "natural nontoxic material, environmentally friendly, non-toxic, and beautifully painted."

Sellers promise to ship the product "within six to ten days" arriving as early as October 21 or until November 7, which is a week late for the spooky event.

Medieval plague doctor costume

On Tuesday, September 29, plague doctor's costumes are found to being sold at fancy dress stores while it is already sold out on some online stores. The costume includes a long black robe, gloves, black tops hat, and the distinctive beak masks.

With the ongoing pandemic, the plague doctor outfit is one of the most popular Halloween costumes as they were similar to those worn by doctors who treated patients during the bubonic plague epidemic in Western Europe.

A complete plague doctors' costume that includes a beak mask, black hooded cape, black top hat, a cane, and black gloves are being sold at Amazon for $36.16 while a children's version is priced at $20.66. Meanwhile, Jokers' Masquerade sells a Medieval Plague Doctor Halloween costume for $45.20, which includes a collar, hat, belt, mask, and robe.

Plague doctors wore head-to-toe wax or leather coats with a beak mask that was stuffed with dried flowers, vinegar sponge, or sweet-smelling herbs to prevent the disease. They also carried a rod to fend off or poke victims.

Some Twitter users shared pictures for their plague doctor Halloween costumes.
