The world's most valuable technology company, Apple, is nearing the expected timeline for the launch and release of its most awaited smartphone, the iPhone 12. In its line-up after months of holding back every possible data, the public can imagine. Leaks now confirm new leads about the iPhone 12 'Mini' that will set back the model among other Apple smartphone variants.

The iPhone 12 'Mini' is a new concept for one of the industry's giants, Apple, as old phones under the brand have the smallest variant to be the base or called 'iPhone,' then its designated number or edition. However, Apple now bestows the iPhone with a new name that is getting smaller instead of enlarging, as seen in previous trends.

The 'Mini' namesake was only seen on the iPad since its original debut last November 2012. No iPhones ever got this name until eight years after. The change from the base 'iPhone' (i.e., iPhone 11), considered to be the smallest in the line, will be the iPhone 'Mini,' according to leaks.

The reason for this is not yet known to the public as Apple remains silent on the details of the soon-to-be-released iPhone 12. Leaks now confirm that the base variant will indeed be a 'Mini,' and the next would be the plainly-named 'iPhone 12.' What is now discontinued is the 'Plus' variants among the iPhone lines as larger ones are now called 'Pro' and 'Pro Max.'

According to several leaks and reports, Mac Rumors give a comprehensive list of every expected loss that the iPhone 12 Mini will suffer. Several of these affect performance and specifications, truly making it the base phone in the line-up.

Notably, the following are only based on leaks, and Apple may have many changes that may prove the list wrong. However, if leaks were accurate, this is what's to expect on the new iPhone 12 Mini.

Display

This is a given factor for the iPhone 12 Mini, as it will differ in size against the other models. The new phone will have a 5.4-inch display only, still bigger than iPhone SE 2020, with 4.7 inches containing the notches. However, in terms of the body, the iPhone 12 Mini will be relatively smaller.

The display technology will also see a downgrade, only receiving the flexible OLED Display with Y Octa Integrated Touch. The new display is relatively better than the LCD; however, it trails behind the Pro versions that will reportedly have 10-bit colors, along with an XDR Classification.

LiDAR

The new iPhone 12 Pro version will have the rumored 'LiDAR' scanner in its chassis, and as a new feature because of its addition to the earlier iPad, Pro released last spring. This scanner will use lights to measure the sensor's distance from the objects around the device, basically mapping the environment of the user and the iPhone. As a base version of the iPhone 12, Mini rumors say that it will bid farewell to the scanner.

Battery

The smaller the device, the smaller the components. This is true for the iPhone 12 'Mini' and the previous base versions of Apple's iPhone line. As the size is relative to the phone and its body, batteries take up space that affects the size. Leaks expect that the iPhone 12 Mini will have a 2,227 mAh capacity, smaller than the iPhone 11 Pro flagship with 3,046 mAh.

Camera

Another phenomenon seen in the Apple line-up is the camera, which has less lens or features than lower iPhone variants. iPhone 11's release only has two rear cameras, the wide and telephoto, compared to the Pro version with three, telephoto, wide, and ultrawide.

iPhone 12 Mini will follow the trend of the base iPhone 11.

5G

Rumors and leaks indicate that iPhone 12 Mini will have a sub-standard 5G network capability but will be faster than the Pro versions. The 6-GHz 5G will have wider connectivity but slower; however, the tech's ratio of compensation will be advantageous for the 'Mini.'
