Google Assistant recently added a dedicated page allowing you to select the podcast service you prefer. Here, you will have more options when using Google Assistant to listen to your favored podcasts.

On October 15, Ausdroid first spotted Google Assistant's integration of third party podcast services into its ecosystem as seen in the new menu found in Google Assistant's services settings. With the addition of Google Assistant's Podcasts page, it was assumed that the Assistant will supports third-party podcast app options in the future, but then, Podcasts services only list one provider: the Google Podcasts.

However, on Oct.17, Ausdroid noticed the addition of Spotify on the list. This officially made Spotify Google Assistant's first third party podcast service.

With Spotify on the list, you can now choose to set it as your Google Assistant's default podcast service, instead of merely relying on Google Podcasts when listening to podcasts via smart speaker. Also, you can now listen to your podcasts and pick up where you left off, which is one feature of Spotify.

How to Set Spotify as Your Google Assistant's Default Podcast Service

To make changes on your podcast service and make Spotify as the default app through Google Assistant, you can easily set it from the Assistant settings. Follow these simple instructions on how to set your podcast services:

  • Access the settings via the Google app. You may also ask Google to open it with a simple voice command by simply saying: "Hey Google, open Assistant settings."
  • On the settings, scroll down and look for the "Podcasts" section.
  • The option to link your Spotify account with Google Assistant is not limited for Premium version as it also appears even for free accounts.
  • Once your Spotify account is linked to Google Assistant, it will show on your list of podcast services. Just press on Spotify on the list and make sure the button next to it is lit to set it as default podcast service.

Currently, Spotify is the only third-party choice for podcasts, but it might change in the future as Google may be able to support other leading apps for podcast service including Pocket Casts or in the future.

How to Remove Spotify on Your Google Assistant Podcast Service List

In case you want to remove Spotify as your default podcast service in your Google Assistant, you may easily do it in just few steps. Here's how to do it:

  • Access the settings via the Google app or with a simple voice command: "Hey Google, open Assistant settings."
  • Scroll down and look for the "Podcasts" section on settings.
  • On your podcast services, press on Spotify and make sure the button is not lit to remove it as the default podcast service.
  • You may either choose Google Podcasts as your default podcast service or just choose "no default provider."
  • Your Spotify account will still show on your list of podcast services. You may switch it back as default in the future.

Meanwhile, to remove Spotify in the Google Assistant, you may just press the "Unlink" button under Spotify's name and confirm your action.
