"Animal Crossing: New Horizons" will be getting huge updates on Thursday, November 19, with the game's new events and functions, particularly the much anticipated transfer data feature that will allow players to move a resident or even an entire island.

On Tuesday, November 17, Nintendo shared complete information regarding the data save transfers. This feature allows players transfer game data between two Switch systems. For the longest time, this feature was not possible, but Nintendo recently gave it a green light and will soon be possible.

'Animal Crossing: New Horizons' Save Data

Back in July, Nintendo has already hinted about it during the summer update as the transfer function was "planned for later this year." Players wanted to use this feature, which Nintendo chose to disable as they currently only able to play a single game per console.

Resident Move

Players may use the Resident Move feature to move a single player to another Nintendo Switch system. To use this feature, players must have access to original system as well as the new system.

Players may transfer the resident, the resident's home as well as most of the items possessed by the resident and those in storage will be transferred to a different island on another Nintendo Switch system. However, players cannot transfer the island resident representative.

This feature is helpful when only a single player or multiple residents would like to continue playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons with the new Nintendo Switch. However, the new system should have no existing save data. Otherwise, the resident(s) will move to the island that is already populated island on the new system. Meanwhile, all progresses on the island and animal neighbors will be retained on the original Switch system.

Entire Island Transfer

Players who want to transfer an entire island and all its residents to another Nintendo Switch may use the Entire Island Transfer feature. Like the single player transfer, players must have access to the original system as well as the new system to be able to transfer a whole island.

This feature is useful when replacing a Nintendo Switch system with a new device while all players from the old system will be playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons in the new Nintendo Switch system. This feature is only way to be able to move the island resident representative.

All customizations and progresses in the island, island resident representative, animal neighbors, and all other residents created on the original island will be included in the transfer.
