Before the official release of the PlayStation 5, Sony has made a teardown video to show the hardware of the PS5 console, revealing removable and replaceable parts in the event your unit malfunctions in the future and how serviceable the console is.

Optical Drive Issue

However, gadget repair company iFixit has also recently released their own version of the PS5 teardown, this time with the DualSense controller that comes with the console.

As it turns out, iFixit's version was more in-depth than Sony's video, showing more parts and sides of the console that some PS5 fans may not know about, including the "weird" catch when you replace the optical drive, as The Verge notes it.

First off, the teardown video shows how many screws are keeping your console together, and spoiler alert: there are TONS.

But what people are somewhat surprised is that the console's optical drive is software-locked to the motherboard, meaning you can't precisely DIY the repair or bring it to repair companies like iFixit since regardless of how easy the physical swap is, the replacement piece won't be able to read any of the PS5 disks you have.

This means that if your PS5's optical drive is the problem, it's better to bring it to Sony to have it repaired properly.

DualSense Controller Teardown

It could be one of the advantages of the Digital Only version of the next-gen console as adding an extra SSD will be much easier--although the support wasn't available when it launched, and Sony promised it would add the feature in future updates.

Moreover, iFixit's PS5 teardown also showed the views of the console's power supply that Sony did not reveal in their video.

The repair company has also opened the DualSense controller, which shows that its battery is easy to replace, and it turns out people will actually have to replace it soon as Sony is still using an internal Li-ion battery that is sure to degrade over time.

The battery is also massive compared to DualShock 4, which works on PS4 consoles.

If you want to see the in-depth teardown, iFixit uploaded the video on their official YouTube channel, which you can watch below:

Still Waiting for PS5 Restocks

As of now, the PS5 is still a hot commodity, with many players still waiting for restocks of the console so they can finally grab their hands on it and play highly-anticipated titles in 4K 60fps that the next-gen console promises.

Unfortunately, the consoles are still out of stock in major retailers, and if they do open the sales for the restocks, they sell out almost as immediately as when the doors opened.

Nevertheless, Sony promised gamers that more stocks would be coming to retailers before the year ends, according to a report by CBS News, so fans are gearing up to get their hands on the console before other players or scalpers get theirs.
