After Tesla CEO Elon Musk tweeted "Use Signal" on Jan. 7, the messaging app became the talk of the town, even boosting the stocks of yet another company, Signal Advance by 1,100%. This is because the messaging app is only donation-backed.
Aside from the surging number of downloads after Musk sent his tweet, the CEO also revealed that he already donated to the company and has plans to donate more.

Musk promotes another encrypted messaging app to uphold people's privacy and safety after WhatsApp updated its terms. This led to an influx of downloads from his fans and supporters, further boosting the app's popularity.
After a follower asked him to invest in Signal App "to make it more popular, stable, and better," the world's richest man merely replied that he already made donations to the app in the past. "Already donated to Signal a year ago. Will donate more," Musk said on his tweet.

Also, when asked if his donations will help the app to enhance its features, he said "Signal app will do more."
Although Musk has never bad-mouthed Whatsapp, he urged his followers to use Signal after the former updated its privacy policy. However, his relationship with Whatsapp's parent company is a different story as he openly said in Twitter that "Facebook sucks" and even urged the public to delete Mark Zuckerberg's social media platform in February 2020.
Meanwhile, Signal app tweeted in response to the stock surge that went to Signal Advance after Musk asked the public to switch their messaging apps. "Is this what stock analysts mean when they say that the market is giving mixed Signals? Understandably, people want to invest in Signal's record growth, but this isn't us," said Signal on its tweet adding that the company is an independent 501c3 and its "only investment is in your privacy."
It was quite disappointing that it should have been enjoying the huge investments from the public, which unfortunately went to a wrong company. However, it Musk's promise to donate more is still something to look forward to.
What is Signal App?
Signal is a free iOS and Android messaging and voice talk app, which focuses on privacy. Aside from smartphones, it also has a desktop version. Joining Signal only requires a phone number and it will allow users to send text or have voice or video calls with individual contacts or in groups.
Although the features are quite the same as the other messaging apps, Signal is really private. All communications within the app use end-to-end encryption, so only those involved can see their messages' contents.
The messaging app is owned by Moxie Marlinspike who also goes by Matthew Rosenfeld. He co-authors Signal Protocol encryption, which is being used by various messaging apps such as Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Skype, and Signal. He founded Signal app together with Brian Action is also a co-founder of WhatsApp.
Signal messaging App is available via the Google Play Store, App Store, and on PC with encrypted messaging.
