MacBook Pro won't charge past 1 percent? Well, there's good news to be heard as Apple announces that it will replace the battery for free. However, it seems like not everyone will be able to avail of the free battery replacement.

MacBook Pro battery problem

Following the previous release of the said macOS Big Sur 11.2.1 along with fixes to a certain bug that had prevented MacBook Pro battery from actually charging, Apple has just recently announced that the company will reportedly be replacing the batteries of certain MacBook Pro units for free. However, only for those 2016 or 2017 MacBook Pro models that won't charge over 1%, according to the story by 9to5mac.

According to a brand new supporting article that was published on Apple's official website, there is a small number of certain Apple MacBook Pro users that have reportedly experienced quite an issue along with the battery unable to charge past 1%. Apple also noted that the affected devices will also be shown the particular "recommended service" message within the battery menu when they will be running the said macOS Big Sur 11.2.1 or even the latest supplemental update of the said macOS Cataline 10.15.7.

MacBook Pro won't charge to 100 percent

Those that can avail of this free replacement will reportedly get an indication that the user's battery needs service. It was noted that if the 2016 or the 2017 MacBook Pro would exhibit this particular behavior, it is important for the user to contact Apple in order to get their batteries replaced for free. The unit will reportedly be examined before the service in order to identify if the unit is indeed eligible for the said free battery replacement.

  • The MacBook Pro 2016 13" Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports

  • The MacBook Pro 2017 13" Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports

  • The MacBook Pro 2016 15"

  • The MacBook Pro 2017 15"

How to check MacBook Pro battery status

In order for users to be able to check the total battery health of their very own MacBook Pro, they can go straight to the System Preferences app and simply click the Battery option. After this, users should then select the said Battery located in the sidebar and simply click the Battery Health. 

For those MacBook computers that are running the macOS Catalina, users will have to hold the Option key as well as click the said battery icon in the unit's menu bar in order to reveal the said battery status menu.
