SpaceX starts accepting Starlink preorders for its broadband asking for only $99 deposit in order to get the service during the second half of this 2021. However, there are still some limitations to those that can avail this service.

How to get Starlink internet?

In order to start the process, head to the official Starlink website and simply enter the email and service address. The overall Starlink cost would reportedly be $499 for the hardware as well as $50 for the shipping and handling fee as well as $99 for the monthly service plus the tax. These are reportedly the same prices that are being charged during the ongoing beta, which is still limited to certain parts within northern US or southern Canada.

When can I get Starlink?

The preordering system notes that the availability is limited and that Starlink is targeting coverage within the area during the mid to late 2021. Orders are said to be on a particular first-come, first-serve basis. Interested applicants will then receive a notification once their Starlink is finally ready to ship.

The same timeframe was given to addresses in Arizona, Illinois, California, Massachusetts, Texas, North Carolina, Virginia, and even Washington State. A particular CNBC report noted that the preorders for certain areas are going to show availability later in 2022 instead.

The $99 taken upon preordering is said to be fully refundable and users can initiate a refund to their deposit by simply logging into the said Customer Account Portal and proceed to request a refund. This is what the website noted. Unfortunately, placing down a preorder still won't guarantee that users will be getting the Starlink. Depending on the location, there could be some orders that take 6 months or even more in order to fulfill. Placing a deposit still does not guarantee the service.

SpaceX is also setting limits on how many interested participants can sign up in every single geographic area. This is most likely for them to be able to ensure that the system has enough capacity for every single customer. It was noted that Starlink is available to just a limited amount of users per coverage area as of the moment.

How much will Starlink be worth?

Presumably, the service will be faster as well as more reliable once it is finally made available towards those people who have submitted their preorders. The website notes that Starlink is now delivering its initial beta service both internationally and domestically. This will continue expansion towards near global coverage of the said populated world in 2021.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk then noted on his Twitter that SpaceX will do the long awaited Starlink IPO once they are able to predict cash flow reasonably well. This could depend on the number of users Starlink is able to secure given it has not even officially started and is still in beta phase.
