A Square Enix acquisition is allegedly in the works.

A short post claimed that multiple companies are currently interested in acquiring Square Enix, the popular Japanese game developers behind JRPG hits like the "Final Fantasy" franchise--although the report did not name any of the companies that are allegedly pursuing the potential acquisition.

Square Enix acquisition

The news comes from Bloomberg Japan. However, the report is not a guarantee that Square Enix will be acquired by another company.

As the NPD Group's Mat Piscatella posted on Twitter, just about every big-name publisher in the game industry looks into potential partnerships, mergers, and acquisitions, but it is very rare that something like this goes ahead.

Nevertheless, the video game industry has been shaken with massive acquisitions of late.

In Sep. 2020, Microsoft announced the acquisition of Bethesda, including every individual developer that the Maryland-based company oversaw, like Arkane, Tango Gameworks, and more.

Just last month, the European Union's trade body officially gave consent to the acquisition of Bethesda by Microsoft moving ahead, with Xbox then officially announcing its acquisition of the company on Mar. 9.

Harvey Smith, the game director of Arkane, stated that the two companies fit perfectly together, while Xbox boss Phil Spencer revealed that Bethesda will run semi-independently from Microsoft following the acquisition.

Square Enix released a statement about reports that multiple companies are looking to acquire it, stating that it does not consider selling off the company.

The short response also states that they have yet to receive any offers from third parties. Square Enix has a very busy year ahead, with the release of "Final Fantasy 7: Intergrade," as well as several other upcoming titles in the forum of "Final Fantasy 16" and "Forspoken."

GameStop FFVII Remake Intergrade

Meanwhile, GameStop announced that it will have a "FFVII Remake Intergrade" pre-order bonus, which is a special Steelbook case for the PS5 game, as per Eurogamer.

GameStop noted that it is a limited item available while supplies last and will give people an alternative way to protect the disc. The physical copies cost $69.99 at the store.

The promotion art offered a better peek at the "FFVII Remake Intergrade" Steelbook case GameStop offers. Its focus is on the "FF7R INTERmission" DLC starring characters such as Yuffie and Weiss the Immaculate.

Square Enix stated that players can look forward to utilizing Yuffie's signature battle style in combat as she undertakes a mission to steal the Shinra Electric Power Company's most powerful material.

The front of the case will have the key art of Yuffie and Sonon looking out over Midgar. Yuffie is holding her shuriken and wearing her iconic Moogle cloak.

Inside, the Steelbook features the key art of the game's main characters, with Aerith, Red XIII, Cloud, Barret, and Tifa being highlighted.

The PS5 version of "FFVII Remake" will have a number of new features, too. In addition to the Yuffie DLC, there will be visual upgrades, as well as a new Photo Mode.

"Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade" will be available on PlayStation 5 on June 10. People who bought PS4 copies will get a free upgrade, but will have to purchase the Yuffie DLC separately. The "FF7R INTERmission" DLC will be released on the same day.
