Amazon devices are not always for entertainment as the latest news involving Rebecca Patterson, a resident of Klein, Houston proves its other use. On the night of Friday, June 18, the 66-year-old attended the baseball game of one of his grandchildren when the following moments took her by surprise.

After the event, she went to rest for a while and watch some movies. For her age, the tech-savvy granny did not know what's coming next when she decided to go to the bathroom with her Apple Watch. The next moment, she suffered from a terrible floor on the tile.

A Klein grandmother who suffered from fracture and injuries used Amazon Echo Dot to call for help.

According to the latest report of Houston Chronicle, the fall caused an injury to the hip, back, and an arm fracture to Patterson. During that time, she was feeling excruciating pain.

Her worn Apple Watch located at her broken arm could have been used to contact the rescuers for an emergency call. Unfortunately, the smartwatch's connection has been disconnected. The next day during the birthday party of her grandson, one family member found out that she was missing on the occasion.

The Klein native narrated that she has been praying for about 45 minutes for someone who could look for her. She was hoping that someone would call her. That was the time when Patterson recalled that there was an Amazon Echo Dot in her bedroom.

The grandmother is not used to manually operating the Amazon smart home device. This time, she instructed Amazon Alexa to make a call for her daughters. In a few moments, the Echo dot reached the contacts, however, since it was unrecognizable, they weren't able to answer it.

The sisters remembered the feature of the Amazon Alexa-supported speaker and they were able to receive and hear the voicemail of their mother. After some time, the paramedics arrived in the area to rescue the grandmother who was enduring intense pain.

Although it would take some time before she fully recovers, Patterson believes that she would heal faster. The grandmother also wants to avoid undergoing surgery.

After the mishap that happened, Patterson wrote a letter to Amazon about the emergency call that it had made. If it wasn't for the speaker, she would have spent many hours in the bathroom. The bad thing that could take place would be the worsening condition of her fracture and injuries.

Patterson knew that at the end of the day, the technology could do more work than being used to play music. If there will be some accidents that might happen in the future, Patterson's family ensures that all Alexa-enabled devices could make calls when someone needs help.

The Klein granny recommends the device to everyone especially for those who are prone to experiencing unforeseen circumstances.

I use it all the time for music or to set timers or to see what the weather is, just the everyday things but I had never used it to call anybody ever. I just set it up with my emergency contact so if I did need to use it again it would show my name," Patterson said.
