Mario Day: What is It

As per an online article by the National Today, Nintendo debuted Mario as a playable character way back in 1985.

Since then, the Mario franchise featuring the animated character from the Mushroom Kingdom has massively grown into an iconic household name in the world of gaming.

In fact, the mustached character has already graced more than 200 gaming titles. Not to mention that there are tons of Mario games that have become phenomenal all-time bestsellers.

That said, the massive gaming franchise of Nintendo has garnered tons of fans through the years.

Thus, these Mario-loving folks take time every March 10 of the year to celebrate the massive franchise by either dressing up as Mario or simply playing its hundreds of games to choose from.

It is worth noting that the exact founding day of Mario Day remains to be seen. What's for sure is that Nintendo finally celebrated it with its fans only in 2016.

Mario Day: Through the Years

Back in 2016, Nintendo posted a YouTube video with the title "Celebrate Mar. 10 - Mario Day!" The celebratory video, which recognized the Mar10 Day featured Mario himself walking around the office, turning random office supplies into stuff related to Mario. In turn, the Nintendo offices have been filled with Mario plushies and other merchandise.

The following year or in 2017, Nintendo went on to celebrate Mar10 Day by releasing a Mario-themed profile picture frame on Facebook. The gaming giant also slashed the prices of Mario games on Amazon.

According to a report by Newsweek, Nintendo commemorated Mario Day last 2021 by giving away massive game discounts for Mario games, as well as a single Luigi game.
