The next iPhone SE will be produced using carbon-free aluminum from Elysis, according to Apple.

According to a report by iMore, the tech titan saw a huge breakthrough in the new smelting process which paved the way for the Green Bonds investment amounting to $4.7 billion.

The new venture will help the iPad maker to create a carbon-free product made of aluminum.

According to the company's VP of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, Lisa Jackson, the iPhone manufacturer has grown committed to going green on Earth. She highlighted that the Green Bonds would be a "key" tool to achieve their environmental goals for the planet.

She added that their investments are headed towards decreasing the carbon footprint from the usual components that they utilize.

Moreover, this would further emphasize that the corporation is open to relying on renewable or recyclable materials to continue conserving natural resources.

World's First Carbon-Free Aluminum

In another news story from Apple Insider, the Cupertino firm will be using the world's first low-carbon aluminum in its succeeding iPhone SE variants. To make it possible, the company will be purchasing aluminum from Elysis.

Specifically, the component that will be used will also be the "first commercial-purity primary aluminum" for industrial works. Instead of adding more greenhouse gasses to the atmosphere, the process will ditch the usual method and instead produce oxygen.

Initially, Apple also partnered with Rio Tinto, Alcoa, Quebec, and the Canadian government four years ago regarding the process. The tech giant was able to use the results on manufacturing the 16-inch MacBook Pro.

Using hydropower, Elysis managed to start aluminum production in Quebec's Industrial Research and Development Center.

"This is the first time aluminum has been produced at this commercial purity, without any greenhouse gas emission, and at industrial scale. The sale to Apple confirms the market's interest in aluminum produced using our breakthrough ELYSIS carbon-free smelting technology, Elysis CEO Vincent Christ said.

He added that the organization is excited to collaborate with Apple for this technological breakthrough. Rest assured that the durability of the product with aluminum will last long.

At the time of writing, Apple's Green Bonds continues its drive towards a carbon-neutral campaign by leaning on the potential of renewable energy sources. Aside from this private sector, the Cupertino corporation has another data center located at Viborg in Denmark. There lie the largest onshore wind turbines in the world.

For our latest report, Allstate recently conducted a drop test for the 2022 iPhone SE 3. Although it lacks the Ceramic Shield, it was able to survive the test. However, it's still fragile compared to its iPhone 13 counterpart.
