One of the most common methods to prolong the shelf life of a food is by freezing it. Placing food in a freezer helps in preserving its condition so you can consume it on other days.

However, some people tend to forget that some foods should not be placed in a freezer. Aside from preserving, freezing only deteriorates their appearance and taste, making them not suitable for consumption once again.

Here's a list of the foods you shouldn't place in a freezer and here's why.

It's important to consider the food that you should be putting in a fridge. Although it's helpful to consider preserving them inside a freezer, some food is not ideal to be placed under an extremely cold temperature.

Here's a list of the foods that you shouldn't put in a freezer.

Raw Fruits and Vegetables

According to Reader's Digest, people should stop putting their fresh fruits and vegetables in the freezer. Since these foods are succulent, the water inside them will quickly get crystallized so they won't survive the cold temperature.

In addition, it's hard to thaw them since what you're just getting is a mushy fruit or veggie. In general, it is a total waste to put these foods inside a freezer.

Fresh Eggs

Did you know that putting an egg in a freezer can cause its shell to explode? It's not suitable to place this food in such a location since it will be more vulnerable to bacteria when its shell breaks open.

If you want to preserve it in a good condition in your fridge, you should peel out its shell and separate its egg yolk and white in a storage bag.

Pasta

Pasta is another food that is commonly placed inside a freezer. During Christmas dinners, some families tend to put it so they could reheat it the next day. This is a wrong method that should be stopped since freezing can make pasta soggier than usual.

Re-Frozen Meat

Putting frozen meat back and forth into the freezer is a bad practice. According to the US Department of Agriculture, it's safe to refreeze raw meat and poultry products that have been thawed. However, there's a tendency that the meat will be dried out since defrosting results in the loss of water content in the meat.

Milk

It's true that some people drink cold milk but don't ever put this one in a freezer. Since it has high-fat content, it will be separated into watery parts once you thaw it out.

Although it's safe to consume, its texture will not be the same anymore once you pull it out of the freezer.

Cheese

The last on the list is the Cheese. Freezing can alter its texture which makes it denser and heavier. The good side of preserving a cheese in a freezer is it has a long shelf life which can last for many months, per CNET.
