The Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) non-fungible token (NFT) collection is now going to do more than just sell NFTs or come up with its ApeCoin. In fact, the collection is set to launch its very own Hollywood film trilogy known as "The Degen Trilogy."

Owners of the NFTs have already been invited to audition their apes.

BAYC Launched 10,000 NFTs and is Announcing a Trilogy

The story by CNET questioned whether or not it would be possible for an NFT collection to turn into a "true mainstream brand," noting this is what the BAYC is attempting to do. The collection has already launched 10,000 NFTs a year ago and now, it just announced that they would be launching a film trilogy.

The BAYC trilogy was announced by Coinbase, a popular crypto exchange, with details pointing to the first film debuting in June. The film will also be paired with Coinbase's launch of its long-awaited NFT marketplace.

Coinbase is Set to Produce 'The Degen Trilogy' Film Series

"The Degen Trilogy" film series is going to be produced by Coinbase. When it comes to the name, "degen" is often associated with a person buying coins or NFTs despite not doing the research regarding what they are buying. The term is also used in phrases like "degen buyer" or "degen trader."

The debut will happen within the NFT convention "NFT NYC," which is scheduled to make its yearly appearance between June 20 to 23 in New York. The film's website indicated that they are working with a team of writers, directors, and animators to come up with the film.

However, there is no available information beyond that as of press time.

BAYC Now Costs at Least $300,000 from Initial Price of $250

Coinbase notes, however, that the talent behind the BAYC film series is already known, saying people might have already seen their work.

The Bored Ape Yacht Club was created by Yuga Labs and it has since turned into the biggest NFT collection in the world. The initial launch for these NFT pieces demanded a price of just $250 each but now, the price has soared to at least $300,000.

BAYC Encourages Its NFT Owners to Audition and Write a Backstory for Each Character

CNET describes the NFT collection as a "status symbol" on social media, likening it to a Rolex which can be used to flex on clients and colleagues.

It should be noted that NFTs can also be used as memberships to a community of "well connected crypto and NFT traders," noting that due to the connections, some people are willing to buy what the publication described as "jpegs worth nearly half a million dollars."

The interesting thing about the BAYC film is that each of its NFT owners can audition their apes as characters as Coinbase is asking them to write their own backstory in order for the character to potentially show up in the film.
