While the Android 13 is still expected to succeed the current Android 12, Google already has a codename for its Android 14. Reports have discovered the codename for Android 14, which is set to be called "Android U" or the "Upside Down Cake."

Google Android 14 Codename Discovered: 'Upside Down Cake' or 'Android U'

9to5Google initially spotted the codename "Upside Down Cake" or "Android U" in the Android Open Source Project code. The codename for Android 14 was discovered before Google released its upcoming Android 13.

According to the story by TechRadar, the Upside Down Cake is what it sounds like with the decorations at the bottom and the whole cake on top. The Android 14 is still in its early stages of development and should have a public beta in the future to gauge whether or not users like the new operating system.

Android 13 Expected Release Date on October 2022

Android 13 is expected to roll out to everyone that has a compatible handset with the current Android 12 launching back in October 2021. TechRadar notes that its successor, the Android 13, could launch during the same month this year due to its launch date.

The publication, however, notes that although the Android 13 might launch in October of this year, there is still a chance that the operating system could launch earlier than usual. Just like Google has done in the past, its Pixels could be the first devices to get the update.

Android 14 is Expected to First Roll Out with the Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro

The Google Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are expected to be the first two units to receive the Android 14. TechRadar announced numerous features the Android 13 is expected to bring, including one that alerts users when smart tags are being used to stalk them, along with improved notification control.

As of press time, not a lot of details are available regarding the Android 14 just yet. The codename, however, suggests that Google could already be working on the update and that it could officially launch in 2023.

Android 13 Specs Revealed: eSIM Support and Customization Tweaks

TechRadar notes that it is still hard to imagine what the Android 14 could bring since it is still too early to know what changes the new operating system might bring. However, when it comes to the Android 13, Google is expected to bring minor customization tweaks and eSIM support.

Expected Improvements for the Android 14

The publication noted certain improvements they hope to see on the upcoming Android 14, including better user privacy, app control, device security, and better notifications management.

The previous updates by Android usually include these areas, and as per the publication, this could mean that Android 14 could do the same. As of press time, however, there has been no official update on what exact features are expected to come from the update.
