Swedish EV automaker Polestar has just debuted a slew of new upgrades and enhancements to its second model, the company's first-ever fully electric vehicle that initially launched all the way back in 2019. This time, Polestar took its highly beloved all-electric SUV and integrated it with a plethora of updates, most noticeable among them being a new suite of outer color options.
The Polestar 2 also features new interior finishes and wheel designs, with a standard 19" and optional 20" variation. Its Plus Pack will give consumers a suite of additional internal temperature controls, allowing buyers to set the car's range between 20 and 77 degrees Fahrenheit.
Among the most enticing new improvements to the Polestar 2 is diminishing its overall carbon emission footprint. Polestar, a company that has long prided itself on maintaining sustainability by lowering carbon emissions, chose to switch its EV components with more of those that use renewable energy.
This decision has not only lower carbon emissions per car but has likewise allowed Polestar avenues toward tracing various minerals from their starting point to the specific vehicle using blockchain. The concept rides in tandem with Polestar's mission of building a more stable world to ensure its EVs are built on ethical mining standards and push forth in delivering a sustainable lifecycle from the assembly line to the consumer.

Polestar last saw some ride upgrades in late September of last year, when it announced new powertrain options, like its Long Range Single Motor Polestar fastback EV. Now, however, it has even bumped the overall potential of its internal batteries through a new collaboration with Circulor. The company's blockchain mica and cobalt tracking platform will aid Polestar in the improvement of its ethical standards in manufacturing.
Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, relayed his own anticipation for the forthcoming Polestar 2 upgrades amid the press release:
"We have revisited the materials and processes that go into making Polestar 2, introducing updates that reduce climate impact and increase the material traceability of this award-winning car. These are important additions to how we can improve cars over their lifetime - not just with functionality and design updates but addressing sustainability and carbon footprint as well."
The Polestar 2 was kitted out with some additional upgrades, like an advanced cabin filter alongside a rather intriguing particulate matter sensor with the Polestar in-car app. These advanced system upgrades allow the car to quantify the exterior air quality to improve the cabin literally. The EV will also boast an improved range in adverse conditions.
Unfortunately, the Polestar 2 price and availability specifically in North America remain untouched, but the company did express that more details on these fronts will be announced over the course of the week.
