After a long period of seminars, announcements, and iconic yearly events being held online, it looks like Apple is preparing to revive in-person events with its WWDC 2022, which is set to happen on June 6.

Aple WWDC 2022 Will Happen as an In-Person Event

According to the story by TechRadar, although WWDC 2022 will be done in-person for Apple developers, there is a limitation to the number of people that can participate. This means that despite the popularity of the event, not a lot of people will be allowed to join the event.

The WWDC 2022 is set to happen in-person at the Apple Park in California on June 6 and so far, the slots remain limited. The interesting thing is that, according toTechCrunch, participants. along with Apple engineers and staff, will be watching the prerecorded keynote during the event.

Limited Participants are Due to COVID-19 Safety Protocols

9to5Mac noted that the limitation on the number of participants are still due to COVID-19 safety protocols. So far, the selection process is done entirely random and there will only be a limited pool for the candidates.

As seen on Twitter, those part of the limited pool of candidates will receive invitations from Apple. Included in the invitation is a note that says the invitations are not transferrable. This means if the invited people cannot join, they will not be able to pass the invitation to their colleagues.

Apple Park Expected to be a 'Special All-Day Experience'

Apple announced the venue for the WWDC 2022 to be at Apple Park and described it as a "special all-day experience." The Cupertino giant invites participants to join engineers and exports to watch the keynote as well as Platform State of the Union videos.

The company is also inviting participants to "explore the all-new Development Center," stating that they are excited to connect with participants in person. Apple notes, however, that this marks the start of online sessions, labs, and lounges with other activites likewise expected.

Limitations in Participants are Due to the Pandemic

TechRadar notes that Apple initially wanted to hold the WWDC 2022 completely in person, but due to the pandemic, it is understandable that, despite being in person, the event comes with certain limitations.

The publication points out the number of COVID deaths in the United States has recently exceeded the one million mark.

However, Apple's decision to hold in-person events is seen as still a step towards returning back to normal.

Other In-Person Events Also Saw a Decline of Participants

Going back to pre-pandemic days is unlikely, as per TechRadar, and convention centers might not see 100,000 people cramped in a smaller space ever again.

As reported by Variety, however, one of the most popular events, Coachella, was still able to gain 125,000 participants. To compare the event to its pre-pandemic days, Coachella was able to land over 150,000 participants in 2019.
