When Apple finally revealed that the original iPod would be phased out after two decades, many people rushed to purchase it for memories. Even the tech collectors did not let this opportunity pass.

However, the price of this electronic device has been steadily dropping in the last 20 years, according to the latest report. Its resale value, however, has increased to 3% since its discontinuity.

iPod's value continues to depreciate over time, but its resale value has improved since its discontinued production.

Having an old device that is part of Apple's history is nostalgic for avid techies, especially those fond of collecting several gadgets produced by the Cupertino giant in the past.

One of the most popular products that the company released to the public decades ago was the iPod. This portable device is iconic for music lovers who want to listen on the go in the early days.

According to 9to5Mac, some people prefer going to trusted reselling sites just to snipe this phased-out gadget. For resellers, selling iPod won't be an ideal task since Sell Cell writes that there's been depreciation in its value in the last two decades.

The data covers its value since its release. It only includes the independent buyers in the United States.

As Sell Cell reports, there has been an 89% drop in the average sales of iPods since they first came out in 2001. It's also noteworthy that the music-playing device has reportedly slipped to 93.3% in terms of its original price of $299.

If you resell this product nowadays, you can still get up to $20 profit. This is still a win-win for resellers who want to earn a little profit from it.

Newer iPods Generate More Profit

In a similar report by 9to5Mac, the older iPod models appear to have a huge depreciation range. The 2019 variants appear to have a 71% drop in value, while the older models have a bigger range of 98%.

You can still sell your outdated iPod and earn an average amount of money of up to $28. In the meantime, you can do the same thing with the new iPod version, but with a bugger earning that can reach up to $100.

For instance, the 7th-gen iPod Touch (256GB model) in good condition can grant you a potential $100 earning for reselling. It's also interesting to know that the resale value of these gadgets has skyrocketed to 3% since Apple cut off its production.

Can Your Old iPod Work in 2022?

Per MakeUseOf, your old iPod can still work but first, be mindful of its condition. Since it's a very old gadget, it might have a lot of scratches and dust on its surface. Other than that, the electronic parts inside could also be affected. For this part, you need to fix its parts first if you want to use it again.

If you're lucky that your iPod is still in pristine condition, you can continue using it. However, it could be quite heavy to carry, and you might want to look for other options similar to it.
