Amazon will disable store access to older Kindle e-readers by August, and to help with the transition, the eCommerce giant has developed a help file to guide users.

The move is to ensure that no Kindle users will try to buy a book from the store only to find out that it's no longer available for them to access. Moreover, Amazon has predicted an influx in customers calling their customer service once users with older Kindle models can't access the store anymore. And they come prepared with their customer service teams ready to tackle issues that may occur due to this change.

SEATTLE, WA - NOVEMBER 4: Books are displayed along side an Amazon Kindle device, which offers previews of those same books on nearby shelves at the Amazon Books store on November 4, 2015 in Seattle, Washington.

The company developed a help file that provides details on the specific models that will be affected by the change.

The help file details the models that will lose access to the store, which are older Kindle models that don't have a touchscreen. That said, these specific models will not be able to access the store-meaning they won't even be able to browse, buy or borrow books anymore.

The Kindle models with no touch screens were introduced to the market over ten years ago. Despite being older models, Amazon reassures e-readers that they can still use these devices to read.

The Kindle (2nd Gen) International, Kindle DX International, Kindle Keyboard, Kindle (4th Gen), and Kindle (5th Gen) will all lose access to the store.

Recent Major Changes to Amazon Kindle

Amazon has also stopped all Android users from buying Kindle eBooks from the official Kindle app earlier this month. The move is due to Google's new policy that requires app developers to adopt the Google Play Store billing system. Also last month, Amazon removed the ability buy digital goods from Amazon Shopping and Prime Video apps.

The good news? Kindle e-readers can buy e-books via a web browser on their computer or laptop. All they need to do is go to the Kindle E-Readers and eBooks option to browse millions of Kindle eBooks.

Also recently, Amazon stopped supplying China retailed with Kindle e-readers and have closed down the country's Kindle eBook shop. By the end of this month, users in China will no longer be able to purchase digital Kindle books, while the Kindle app will be pulled out from the Chinese app store next year.

What To Do With your Old Kindle

Owners of older models of Kindle have the option to trade in their device. However, the device should be eligible for trade-in first. In exchange, users will receive an Amazon Gift Card and get discounts when getting a new Kindle.
