Facebook's redesign with a TikTok-like algorithm might soon roll out to millions of its users after a leaked internal memo mentioned it.

The direction of the social media giant Facebook appears to be clearer by now, transforming its feed to be more like the fast-growing video platform, TikTok.

Facebook vs. TikTok

While Facebook clearly competes with TikTok, thanks to the unfaltering popularity of the latter, the rivalry is about to get more serious between the two giant platforms.

As per a news story by Engadget, the CEO and founder of Facebook, no less than Mark Zuckerberg, along with the top brass of Meta, hinted that their top priority by now is competing against TikTok.

It is worth noting that TikTok has taken the world by storm. All thanks to the unlimited flow of viral videos and the never-ending challenges, which fills up trends now and then.

But what perhaps sets the China-based social network from the Zuckerberg platform is its algorithm, which powers the "For You" section of TikTok.

Facebook with TikTok's 'For You?'

According to a recent report by The Verge, an internal memo from the Meta exec who heads the Facebook app, Tom Alison, revealed how the social media giant plans to better rival TikTok.

If TikTok's primary edge over Facebook is its algorithm, Meta now plans to bring something similar to it to the feed of its users.

Meta has already introduced its TikTok-like functionality, Reels. It offers Instagram and Facebook users an avenue to share short-form videos.

But, The Verge reports that its CEO Zuckerberg still thinks that the whole News Feed of Facebook requires a much-needed overhaul.

Facebook Redesign Leak

The new leaked memo discloses how Facebook plans to bring a complete redesign of its feed.

Alison explained to the employees of Meta how the new FB feed works. The description of the redesign hints that the social media giant is going the TikTok route.

If we are being more precise, the memo shares that Facebook is transforming into a "Discovery Engine." Engadget notes that this means that the News Feed would be filled mostly with a bunch of recommendations. Yes, much like how the For You page on TikTok exactly works.

SO, instead of heavily seeing posts from friends and family members on Facebook, its users would be seeing more posts from strangers on the platform.

Messenger Back on FB App

On top of the new FB feed, the leaked memo also suggests that Messenger is making a comeback on the mobile app of Facebook.

The inbox of the messaging platform should help millions of its users to share and talk about what they saw on their feeds.
