The new Security Update of the virtual reality chat platform brings tons of refinements that should make the service safer for its users as it improves the overall security.

VRChat Bans Mods

As per the latest news story by Venture Beat, the virtual reality chat service, aptly named VRChat, is now banning all mods as it introduces its all-new Easy Anti-Cheat function.

The latest security update purges each and every mod at VRChat, including those that provide handy features.

The developers of VRChat explain that the move to ditch all mods in the virtual reality chat service is in the name of both the safety and security of its users.

VRChat devs went on to disclose that the modified clients in the service are being used to harass and attack its users, Venture Beat says in its report.

And on top of that, the devs argue that even mods that were supposed to be harmless or "non-malicious" draw a few problems as well.

In turn, the "modified clients" have brought some moderation issues for the devs of VRChat, allowing harassment and attacks to flourish.

The firm says in its statement that "even seemingly non-malicious modifications complicate the support and development of VRChat."

Thus, these supposedly harmless mods made "it impossible for VRChat creators to work within the expected, documented bounds of VRChat."

VRChat Anti-Cheat Feature

However, the new feature bans all mods altogether, and as mentioned, it includes some that are extremely useful for its users, which brings accessibility functions.

For instance, Venture Beat notes in its report that the VRChat mods ban also affects a specific mod for the hearing impaired users.

Although VRChat argues that the latest move is supposed to be for the safety and security of its users, the latter is seemingly furious about the new update.

To be more precise, the "VRC-CC" mod brings closed caption to movie worlds, but the latest ban completely removes this.

NME highlights in its news story that the Steam listing of VRChat has been flooded with numerous negative reviews.

The latest blog post of VRChat says it plans on "addressing these concerns and feedback," adding that it is its utmost priority.

And as such, VRChat is now shifting its internal development roadmap to focus on bringing new features to the virtual reality chat service, which were available through mods.
