For gamers that have access to the PlayStation 5's beta software,  they can now enjoy the 1440p support!

Although the system has always supported 1080p and 4K output, 1440p compatibility is still a highly demanded feature by gamers who utilize monitors rather than TVs.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JANUARY 04: President and CEO of Sony’s PlayStation division Jim Ryan speaks during a Sony media event for CES 2022 at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center on January 4, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada. CES, the world's largest annual consumer technology trade show, is being held in person from January 5-7, with some companies deciding to participate virtually only or canceling altogether due to concerns over the recent surge in cases of the omicron variant of Covid-19.

New 1440p Support

As reported by Engadget, the new 1440p support will offer a balance between full HD and 4K, which would be an ideal option for players using their PS5 on PC.

As an additional visual setting when using the PS5 with a compatible monitor, testers who received the most recent beta software for the console will now access a 1440p HDMI video output option.

The option downscales the graphics for 1440p output, which results in clearer images. Hence, PS5 users who are playing a game that supports 4K could also benefit from it, according to Engadget.

However, as VG247 reports, the Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) feature, made available for the console in April, is only supported for 1080p and 2160p resolutions.

New Beta Features

The most recent beta version offers users the option to make game lists in their Game Library in addition to supporting 1440p, allowing them to organize better all of the games they own.

Up to 15 different game lists with 100 games each can be made by players. When they resume a game, their ongoing activities will now be displayed at the top of the game hub, and they may now ask other party members to share their displays so they can observe their activity.

Additionally, they will now receive a message and be able to immediately join the game when they join a party where a participant is playing a game they can join.

Although beta access is only available to invited participants in a few countries, Sony intends to make these changes available to their whole community by the end of the year.

When the beta is made available for download, you'll get an email invitation if you're chosen to take part. As usual, some features accessible during the beta stage might not make it into the finished product or might undergo substantial changes.

There is also a new feature for friend profiles, which you can view under [Accepted Requests] if you accept a friend request from someone who sent you a request in the [Received] list. You can now also interact with your groups through voice messages and stickers in the Game Base card.
