Google Meet and Duo are Now One App—Merger Wants a Single Video Conference App

Google aims to bring one video conference app for all needs, and it is the merger of its Meet and Duo applications into a single feature for all remote call needs. The combined experience focus on bringing one application for all requirements, with its arrival still bringing confusion as there are different apps that Google delivers for the public.

Google announced on its support page that it is merging the Meet and Duo applications into one, and it will bring the "Meet" app that has the Google colors on it, having the video camera icon to symbolize it. The merger would bring the video conferencing features for all, and here users may bring their Meet and Duo affairs in the single app.

However, there is still another app called the "Meet (Original)," which will pick up on the initial Meet experience, and it will have the green color on the video camera. The catch on this app is that it would not have any calling features available, with users needing to use the merged app for their needs.

A migration will soon happen to transfer all data to the new app.

The legacy "Duo" app sees an update that brings the experience to focus on its change to the aforementioned Meet with the Google colors and icon, being the unified app.

Google's focus here is to bring Meet and Duo into one experience, and it is the video conferencing app for all needs of the public.

Here, the application would bring the feature for all needs, including person-to-person calls and the meeting feature that will bring different people to use the app and use its functions for personal and business focuses.

Google Meet and Duo's Use

Several years ago, there were multiple apps from Google that focused on bringing the online experience to send messages and experience calls that would feature different functions for all needs. It is the Google Duo that clashed against Allo, Facebook Messenger, and even its Hangout app for an instant messaging and chat app.

Nevertheless, the start of the pandemic saw Google Duo's prominence as an alternative for Zoom and Skype, especially as there is a massive need for a video conferencing app for remote setups.

It initially made its features available for the web browser, unlike before when it was only available via the app. Still, Google debuted its Meet feature that centers on what the public looks for in a video conference app.

Now, it merges into one experience with Meet and Duo bringing a unified feature for all, with the Google suite working seamlessly with it. Instead of coming up with a new name, it dissolved the Duo to Meet, and it is the app that users are to use for all their video calling needs, whether it be for personal or business requirements.
