Like Apple TV and Amazon Prime Video, Google is working on a feature allowing users to subscribe to other streaming services. The new feature will be integrated as the YouTube "channel store."

YouTube has been Working on the Channel Store for Up to 18 Months

As per the Wall Street Journal report, the platform will launch a streaming video service online store. YouTube is already in renewed talks with different entertainment companies to get them to participate in the platform.

The release date for the upcoming channel store could arrive as early as the fall of this year. According to the story by 9to5Google, the platform has already spent at least 18 months working on this feature.

Streaming Platform Plans to Utilize Its Reach Around the World to Market the Different Channels

As per the publication, the length of development is quite surprising due to YouTube TV already having HBO, AMC+, and Showtime, among other capabilities. The feature will reportedly be available in the United States, but the platform is looking towards a wider launch in the future.

The WSJ notes that the selling point of YouTube to its partners is the scale of its global reach and that the new offering will coincide with its movie experience that was just recently revamped.

YouTube Already Offers About 100 Shows Stretched Across Different Genres

The platform has expanded its TV shows in the United States, closing in on 4,000 free episodes or about 100 shows stretched across different genres. As per Google, the episodes are available in 1080p and come with 5.1 surround sound audio.

Users are now able to "Buy seasons & episodes" via YouTube. The platform does this by sharing the backend with Google TV and Play Store to make purchasing episodes or movies a much easier experience for users.

Platform Adds Up to 100 New Titles a Week

As noted by 9to5Google, YouTube Premium subscribers will be uninterrupted by advertising when watching the different shows. The service offers over 1,500 movies stretching from Warner Bros. to Paramount Pictures and more.

The availability of the shows and movies reportedly changes in the matter of a few weeks. YouTube is expected to add all the way up to 100 new titles per week.

The Platform Plans to Enter the Streaming Market Already Occupied by Apple and Roku Inc

According to Reuters, since cordless TVs are starting to become a growing trend with users shifting to subscription-based streaming services, YouTube is planning to enter the streaming market by joining Roku Inc and Apple.

The main pitch is that the YouTube channel store will be a good place where consumers could see trailers of movies or shows on YouTube and easily decide to pay to subscribe to the service. The platform aims to provide great marketing for streaming services through its reach.

Regarding the negotiations, however, YouTube is still in talks with the different streaming partners regarding subscription revenue splitting. It was noted, however, that the terms could vary depending on the partner.
