Construction Industry's Current State

Although it will help Ohio's economic development and the global shortage of chips that gives power to phones, cars, and home appliances, this will be a challenge as the construction industry is struggling on recruiting workers. Moreso, recruiting 7,000 for a $20 billion job.

In February this year, the Associated Builders and Contractors said that they will need to recruit at least 650,000 workers for them to keep up with the industry as they face a shortage.

This project was announced in January and will start construction later this year. This will house two factories and will employ 3,000 people as the site contains 1,000 acres. The average salary of these employees will be around $135,000.

Michel Engbert, an Ohio-based official with the Laborers' International Union of America said in an interview for Associated Press that this project is known nationwide. He stated, "We don't field calls every day from members hundreds or thousands of miles away asking about transferring into Columbus, Ohio. It's because they know Intel is coming,".

Ohio supported this project as it will help the global economy. In fact, $2 billion incentives were offered to Inter Corp. for this project to pursue.

The report included that the project will not necessarily require 7,000 workers in one day. These numbers are only estimated to be required to build the overall factory as it will include a business park that Vantrust Real Estate will be making, and other additional projects for the suppliers.

Government's Support and Contribution

These projects are supported by the US government as President Joe Biden recently signed the $280 billion CHIPS and Science Act. This funding includes Intel which grants the company $52 billion.

The president said during the ceremony as he signed the law that this will be an investment for the country. He added that through this new law, America is delivering when it comes to technology as it innovates the state despite the global shortage.

Intel Meteor Lake

The company confirmed a few weeks ago that the Meteor Lake will be coming next year and denies speculations of delays for the new compute chips, as confirmed by Intel's spokesperson Thomas Hannaford.

This processor will be following the Alder Lake and the Raptor Lake from Intel. In 2023, users can already purchase the next flagship release of the company.
