It comes even as the Game of Thrones spin-off experienced some hiccups during the debut of its pilot episode on the streaming subscription service HBO Max.

House of the Dragon Premiere: HBO's Largest Ever

As per a recent report by CNBC, the House of the Dragon is off to a good start in terms of its record-breaking views.

The premiere of the much-awaited Game of Thrones spin-off might have been tarnished with some glitches during its HBO Max premiere, but it still achieved impressive views last Sunday night.

No less than Warner Bros. Discovery has confirmed that the House of Dragon is now the biggest series premiere of HBO in its entire history, beating the phenomenal series, Game of Thrones.

The chief content officer for HBO and HBO Max, Casey Bloys, told CNBC that "it was wonderful to see millions of Game of Thrones fans return."

It is to note that the new series premiered on HBO and its streaming service, HBO Max, simultaneously on Aug. 21.

How Many Views Did the House of the Dragon Get?

Besides dubbing the Game of Thrones prequel as the largest premiere in history, Warner Bros. Discovery also gave specific numbers for its debut.

CNBC reports that Warner Bros. Discovery confirmed that the House of the Dragon garnered a total of 9.986 million views in total during the premiere of its first episode.

The entertainment conglomerate says that this is the most number of viewers that an HBO series got on its premiere.

But according to a recent report by Forbes, the metrics firm, Samba TV, claims that the prequel received roughly 2.6 million viewers in the first six hours since it debuted on HBO and HBO Max.

But on the other hand, the firm behind the new HBO series claims that nearly 10 million viewers have watched the second entry in the Game of Thrones franchise.

HBO's House of the Dragon

The staggering number of views that the House of the Dragon achieved comes despite the early glitches that HBO Max users experienced.

Some Fire TV owners report during its highly-anticipated premiere that the app of the streaming service keeps crashing.

Meanwhile, HBO also boasted that even before the much-awaited Dragon premiere, the number of views of Game of Thrones on HBO Max have skyrocketed by about 90% last month.

The spike in viewership follows the arrival of the 4K streaming option for the phenomenal HBO series.
