MIT's Mini Cheetah robot finally received a speed boost, thanks to its advanced training.

The machine was able to enhance its running capability after it completed simulation training, which can be compared to the ones made in the popular sci-fi movie "The Matrix."

If you are not familiar with this film, there's a scene where Neo and Morpheus, the main characters, practice their kung fu skills in a virtual training environment.

All the fighting abilities they learned were implemented in their minds, allowing them to use all the things they acquired in real-life battles.

Now, the training that MIT's Mini Cheetah did is quite similar to the simulation training that Neo and Morpheus used.

MIT Mini Cheetah Robot Receives Speed Boost!

According to CNET's latest report, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology's simulation training greatly enhanced Mini Cheetah's speed.

Thanks to the virtual trial and error activities, the machine was able to apply what it learned to the real world.

"We can train the robot to learn from its experience very quickly in simulation, and then deploy it in the real world," said Pulkit Agrawal, an MIT assistant professor involved in the previous robot enhancement.

Using the machine-learning technique, the Mini Cheetah's mobility ability is now four times faster than its previous running speed.

Since the results are great, MIT said they would use the same simulation training on the robot again. But, the next activity is expected to improve its skills in manipulating objects.

Other MIT Robots Being Enhanced

Aside from the well-known Mini Cheetah, MIT is also pretty busy creating new robots and enhancing their other machines. 

SciTech Daily recently reported that a private university was able to create insect-scale robots that can emit light. 

Aside from generating light, these tiny machines can also fly. MIT based the new robot's design on fireflies. They can also communicate with one another.  

Because of this, MIT claimed that the new insect-like machines could be useful when it comes to search-and-rescue missions.
