National Cinema Day

While the COVID-19 pandemic has compelled most viewers to stream movies at home, catching the latest film on the big screen is still a distinct experience altogether.

Cinemas have been part of people's lives since God knows when. But it is only now that we are hearing about a holiday so-called National Cinema Day.

Rightfully so, given that it is the first celebration of such a holiday, a report by The Verge says.

The news outlet further reports that a non-profit organization that goes by the name Cinema Foundation has come up with National Cinema Day. And we are set to celebrate it for the first time in a few more days.

The non-profit organization is created by none other than the National Association of Theatre Owners. It says that the new national holiday seeks to encourage more people to go back to their movie theater-watching routine.

It is worth noting that the COVID-19 pandemic, aside from embracing the work-from-home setup, also pushed most people to watch movies, even the newly released ones, in the confines of their homes.

But even as the effects of the pandemic have relaxed, it appears that some people still prefer to watch the latest flix on their TVs at home, thanks to countless films and series available on various streaming services.

However, with the all-new National Cinema Day festivities, the Cinema Foundation looks to change just that.

US Theaters $3 Movie Tickets

According to a recent report by Engadget, several cinemas in the US are offering movie tickets on Sept. 3 for only $3.

The president of the Cinema Foundation, Jackie Brenneman, says that "after this summer's record-breaking return to cinemas, we wanted to do something to celebrate moviegoing."

The Verge notes in its report that the discounted pricing does not include tax just yet. But it would be available on tickets, times, and formats, including IMAX and 3D, on the said date.
