SAN FRANCISCO, CA - JUNE 11: Apple CEO Tim Cook delivers the keynote address at the Apple 2012 World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC) at Moscone West on June 11, 2012 in San Francisco, California. Apple unveiled a slew of new hardware and software updates at the company's annual developer conference which runs through June 15.

Last June, iOS 16 was previewed to the public through several developers who have early access as it was undergoing beta testing. For the following months, new features were added one by one.

Apple will not be releasing iPadOS16 on the same date as the release for the smartphones, which has been the norm for the company in previous years. September 13, one day after the iOS 16 launch, will be its own release date.

What's New with the Lock Screen

This update will feature the redesigned and customizable lock screen, which is the most notable change in the update. Through this, users can now customize the design of their lock screens based on their preferences.

Options on changing fonts and colors have been added, together with the widgets. The wallpaper also has a 'depth effect' that covers the time a little to pop up the chosen object on the picture.

iMessage and its New Features

iMessage will also be offering new features that users have been requesting for so long. 15 minutes after sending, users can now edit a certain message. Unsend messages are also now available in the update, where users have the option to unsend until 2 minutes have passed.

Marking 'unread' in messages will also be added if users do not have the time yet to reply to the other party. Collaboration of one user with another in sending a message has also been added along with the newly updated SharePlay.

Based on 9To5Mac, the other features that have been added to the iOS 16 are Scheduled send in Mail, Shared Tab Groups in Safari, Passkeys, the newly updated Home app, iCloud Shared Photo Library, and many more.

The Verge stated in their report that this new operating system's release will be the perfect timing for the latest iPhones that have been announced today. These phones will be available for pre-order on September 9 and will be officially available for purchase on September 16.
