On Wednesday, Sept. 7, Apple unveiled the new iPhone 14 models together with its latest version of the iPhone's operating system, the iOS 16.

iOS 16 is expected to bring tons of new features to the iPhone 14 lineup and improve its photography and videography capabilities.

The Photos app will allow you to eliminate duplicates and lock folders for security and privacy, and the Camera app can translate texts.

Fans are also excited to try out the other new features, including editable iMessages and a customizable lock screen. However, according to MacRumors, only some of the latest iPhone models are eligible to get the iOS 16.

Launch of iOS 16

iOS 16 will reportedly bring improved quality to video recorded with Cinematic mode. It also can blur objects in the foreground of a photo, producing a more realistic-looking effect.

The cinematic mode was one of the features that the tech giant unveiled when it launched the iPhone 13 lineup in 2021.

As for the new iPhone 14 lineup, the only models eligible for the latest iOS 16 features are the iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro.

Apple has not revealed if and when the other iPhone 14 models will get the upgrade.

What You Need to Know About iOS 16

iOS 16 has many features that focus on the security and privacy of your data. In the Photos app, you can lock your albums via Face ID or Touch ID, and it can't be opened without biometric authentication or a passcode.

This feature protects the photos that you have deleted or those that you have marked as hidden. No one else will be able to access your albums without further authentication, according to CNET.

In iOS 16, your iPhone will automatically detect duplicate images in the Photos app. Duplicate photos will show up in a "Duplicates" album. This will allow you to merge them to save space and reduce clutter in the app.

The Duplicates album pops up if you have photo duplicates in your library, and it has a merging feature that will keep the picture with the greatest detail.

After updating the latest operating system, your iPhone will scan for duplicates, so duplicate images may show up over time and may not be available immediately when the update is installed.

If in case you have multiple photos in the Photos app that you want to edit, or if you've made changes to one picture that you want to apply to another view, you can use the new copy and past features in iOS 16, according to Tom's Guide.

You can also streamline photo editing in the new iOS 16 with the undo and redo buttons. You can remove edits you've made to photos one by one instead of having to cancel all of the edits at once.

The undo and redo buttons will show up once you've made an edit to a photo using the built-in editing tools in the Photos app.
