Microsoft is trying to improve its Teams by planning a few new features to add to the platform. One of their plans is to show users the search results within context through thread navigation regarding a queried item.

Microsoft Teams is Working on a Better Way for Users to Search for Conversations

As Microsoft Teams has become an important tool for work, searching for certain text within a conversation can be problematic. When searching for something, instead of being given the whole thread, users are only given a specific message.

Microsoft has finally noticed this gap and is planning to do something about it with certain changes to its search results. When the update launches, users will be able to view full conversations instead of specific parts.

New Update Could Come in October but has Not Yet Been Confirmed

According to the story by Business-Standard, this means that Microsoft Teams could soon show results in context for users to get a better experience. The good news is that the feature might not take that long to arrive.

In an article by Windows Central, it was noted that the new option could become available as early as October for Teams on both Windows and Mac. The article clarified, however, that October "is not a firm date."

What Microsoft Teams Shows When Trying to Look for a Message

With no specific timeframe confirmed, users will have to prepare just in case Microsoft Teams will take longer to launch the update.

As of press time, when users try to look for text, Teams will take them to a view of their message "and any directly connected thread. The report, however, says that it is completely out of context.

Microsoft is Already Aware of What the Search Results Show

This means that despite users trying to search for something, they will not be able to find what they are really looking for. Clicking on the search result will not take users to where the chat happened within a channel or conversation.

Microsoft wants to change this and potentially make it easier for users to find the particular texts they are looking for within context. Originally posted on the Microsoft 365 roadmap and shared on the Hands On Tek site, the company shared what happens when they try to search for a chat message in teams.

Company Knows that Users Only Get to View the Selected Message Instead of the Entire Chat

As per the statement, Microsoft noted that when users try to look for a chat message within Teams and when they click on a message result, they will then be taken to a "view that contains only the selected message, rather than the entire chat thread."

The results can be problematic, especially if users are trying to search for important details within their conversations and only remember a specific keyword. With the potential changes, users will finally be able to view the whole thread instead of just the message itself.
