Back in February, Tesla has reportedly been working on developing its in-car entertainment system with the addition of Steam's library of games into its vehicle computer. This was further confirmed when its CEO, Elon Musk, let out in a series of tweet replies back in July that the company is "making progress with Steam integration" and that it could be available to the public "probably next month."

Unfortunately, the expected demo did not arrive in August, raising questions from the public. A report from Electrek tells us that Tesla is still planning to integrate the full video game library into its fleet of electric vehicles despite being a month behind schedule.

Tesla Pushes Through Steam Integration Despite Delay

As Tesla forwards its pursuit of autonomous driving, the car manufacturer eyes expanding its entertainment system with the addition of more games library ports. The additional games are intended to enhance the overall Tesla ownership experience. According to reports, the company has much larger plans for its in-car gaming and entertainment.

Valve's Steam features a wide variety of video games which is a massive addition to the EV's already existing Tesla arcade. Tesla already has a software engineering team in Seattle that is working on video games as of earlier this year. According to the same Electrek report, the company has also recently "begun building a similar team in Austin."

Earlier today, billionaire Elon Musk assured the public that Tesla is still committed to developing the said entertainment features. In reply to a tweet by a Tesla fan account asking about Steam integration updates, Musk shared that the system is currently being tested at a Tesla facility in Palo Alto. However, Musk did not provide any more details.

The lack of an updated timeline for a demo or Steam integration release date helps DriveTeslaCanada to speculate that the public launch could land on AI Day 2, which is set to take place on Sept 30. Musk announced the event delay in June, but the date has since been pushed back to late September. Moreover, a working prototype of the Optimus robot is also expected to be revealed at the same event by the car manufacturer.

More About the Tesla Steam Integration

Tesla has introduced a new entertainment computer built into the Model S and Model X and geared more toward video games. Furthermore, VideoCardz shared the Tesla Arcade's specifications in comparison to other consoles such as the PS5, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and even the KFConsole. When it comes to GPU Clock, Tesla wins the race with 2.44 GHz, compared to the PS5's 2.23 GHz.

Despite these advancements, not everyone is particularly happy with the addition of the Tesla entertainment system.

According to The Verge, Tesla initially allowed drivers to play games only while the vehicle was in park before allowing drivers to play games while the vehicle was in motion by bypassing a safety confirmation. Following criticism from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), Tesla reversed its decision and reinstated gameplay while driving.
