"Gundam Evolution," a mecha action video game, was released a few days ago. Just several days after the game's launch, it appears that some fans have already formed an opinion about it. It is a nostalgic electrifying game that has captured the attention of many "Overwatch 2" players. We'll explain why later in this article.

"Gundam Evolution" is the newest free-to-play game from BANDAI NAMCO, the company also behind the hit adventure fantasy game Elden Ring. The game was released on Tuesday, Sept. 20 for PC, Xbox, and Playstation.

Why 'Overwatch 2' Fans are Jumping Into 'Gundam Evolution'

We learned last week that Blizzard plans to delete its initial Overwatch servers. The deletion will also take place on October 2, according to the game developer. It appears that "Overwatch 1" players will only have a few weeks to enjoy the original version of the multiplayer first-person shooter gaming title.

This means that the original version of the game, which included the classic assault game mode, will be completely removed in October. Blizzard has already released preliminary details about the upcoming massive update, but one thing is certain: it is not well received by many Overwatch players.

"Gundam Evolution" was evidently designed to appeal to FPS players and to potentially draw more people into the community, according to Gamerant, even though the game is appealing to those who already appreciate the mecha genre. After all, "Overwatch 2" players are already drawn to it by many of the distinctive fighting mechanics and the Gundam FPS game also remains to be free-to-play.

The fact that Blizzard intended to place two new characters behind a battle pass paywall is another issue that Overwatch players are upset about. Overwatch fans did not take this incident lightly as it was the first time in the game's history that characters were not immediately free to use.

However, according to PC Gamer, Overwatch players have been vocally opposing this fundamental change to the way Blizzard has released heroes since 2016 for the past five days. The idea of the game making you earn a hero before you can play them is opposed by almost all current and former players the report claims.

Is 'Gundam Evolution' an Overwatch Derivative?

Based on a Vice article on the new mecha fighting game, "Gundam Evolution" is the superior of the two futuristic shooters. The article describes the game's adrenaline rush and the sheer willpower required to win every match as an element that makes the Gundam game a considerable derivative of Overwatch.

"Unlike a game like Overwatch, which grew into a fast-paced, twitch shooter, "Gundam Evolution" seems to be built with lower time-to-kill in mind," the piece commented.

While many are debating whether "Gundam Evolution" is simply a version of Overwatch with mecha suits instead of extremely powerful humans, the game is actually mid in terms of ratings. Days after its release, the game is receiving mixed reviews on Steam.
