Democratic senators and civil rights lawyers are trying to introduce new legislation to prevent law enforcers from buying tracking gadgets. 

Previously, AP (The Associated Press), an American non-profit news agency, investigated the tool called "Fog Reveal." 

Since this tracking technology is very concerning, it was even included in the previous hearing of the FCC, as reported by KSLA News 12.

According to AP News' latest report, the Fog Reveal platform was being used by police and other law enforcement organizations to search hundreds of billions of user records.

They allegedly use this tool to track more than 250 million mobile devices, enabling them to check people's geolocation data. 

"Americans are increasingly aware that their privacy is evaporating before their eyes, and the real-world implications can be devastating," said Massachusetts Democrat Sen. Ed Markey. 

He added that almost all companies are collecting information about people to know where they go, who they are, and even what they usually do.  

What is Fog Reveal? 

Gizmodo reported that Fog Reveal was developed by Fog Data Science LLC, a Virginia-based company. Its tracking tool is believed to be used by law enforcement agencies ever since 2018. 

Fog Reveal can track people's movements easily. as it relies on commercially available data from cellphone service providers.

Since this technology is quite efficient, Fog Data Science allegedly received upwards of $120,000 from the U.S. Justice Department from 2018 until 2020.
