LAS VEGAS, NEVADA - JANUARY 05: An attendee poses for photos in a protoype SkyDrive SD-03 ultra-light, compact flying vehicle that requires no runway at CES 2022 at The Venetian Las Vegas on January 5, 2022 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Recently, SkyDrive raised 9.6 billion yen, which may push the release of the air taxi by 2025. The funds they raised will go to the research and development of the eVTOL aircraft and operation system, as well as the expansion of their engineering team.

With the new funds, the Japanese company would be able to deepen cooperation in areas like the development of insurance products, the building of charging facilities, and the exchange of technical information.

The eVTOL aircraft is currently under review for certification by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism. SkyDrive is also working with authorities to set up review criteria and certification plans for the nascent industry.

The company's vision is to see flying cars over Yumeshima, an artificial island where the world fair will be held in 2025.

This new mode of transportation will help lessen traffic jams. Moreover, it can be used for medical emergencies and disaster relief.

The company will expand overseas if everything goes well at the World Expo in Osaka. They aim to commercialize the vehicle in India by March 2027 due to the demand in the country known for its notorious traffic jams.

The company has also partnered with Suzuki Motor, whose main market is India. Both companies will work together to research and mass-produce vehicles for the country. However, India doesn't have flying car regulations yet, but their eVTOL will be built to meet standards in line with those in the US and Europe.
