Apple has reportedly conducted some tests to see if the Touch ID will suit the program for the future iPhone lineup. However, the Cupertino giant did not see any improvement in adding the lost feature to the upcoming flagship smartphones that's why it might not return soon.

The upcoming iPhone generations won't be having Touch ID and Face ID is here to stay.

While many users now prefer to use Face ID because of its convenience, some people missed using Touch ID for fingerprint scanning, according to a recent report by Apple Insider.

The nostalgic fingerprint recognition feature was once appealing to iPhone users until Apple rolled out a much better alternative to it.

According to Mark Gurman, a known tech journalist from Bloomberg, the tech titan is planning to bring back Touch ID. Unfortunately, a series of tests prove that the feature is not yet ready to be re-released anytime soon.

The company is initially planning to launch as an in-display Touch ID. This means that the next-gen smartphone will contain this feature aside from the Face ID. However, the outcomes outweighed the expectations that's why Apple decided to ditch this plan.

Apart from that, the Cupertino firm has also some ideas for incorporating Touch ID to iPad Air 4, particularly to its power button. Again, the tests reportedly faltered.

With this being said, the possibility of seeing Touch ID on the iPhone 15 is zero. Still, Apple might continue to integrate this feature into iPhone SE and other related models.

"At this point, I believe Face ID is here to stay, and Touch ID won't be returning to flagship iPhones - at least anytime in the foreseeable future," Gurman wrote in the "Power On" newsletter on Sunday, Oct. 2.

Last February, rumors about the removal of the Face ID surfaced, and at that time, people expected that Face ID will have a huge comeback in iOS 15.4.

Tech Times reported at that time that it would no longer happen because the company has already introduced the newest operating system in the market. This prompted the arrival of another Face ID update to the new smartphone series.

Why is Face ID a Better Choice So Far?

Face ID was not what Apple visualized for the iPhones at first. It was discovered later that it was a game-changing feature starting from a gesture-based UI to a TrueDepth camera.

Per Digital Trends, the problem with the current smartphones is a weak facial recognition system. In short, it could easily be bypassed by a mere photograph rather than the actual face of the user.

Apple decided to tweak it so similar-looking family members will be distinguished effectively. To date, you won't be able to trick the smartphone by presenting a photo of someone. Even if you use prosthetic face masks, you won't fool the system anymore.

Clearly, the company treasured the safety of the users by heavily investing in this feature. At the time of the pandemic, Apple made sure that iPhone users can unlock their devices even when wearing a mask.
