Disney+ for Sony PS5 gaming consoles now readily supports stunning 4K-resolution and High Dynamic Range (HDR) playback.

It should allow gamers to stream the latest hits on the Disney streaming service, such as She-Hulk Attorney at Law, in better contrast and crisper image.

Disney+ for PS5 Gains 4K Resolution

As per the latest news by Forbes, the streaming video services of Disney, Disney+, and Star+, for Sony PS5 consoles got a massive upgrade.

It is worth noting that the Disney+ app for the next-generation Sony gaming console initially only supports 1080p quality. However, PS5 consoles could max out to 4K resolution.

According to a recent report by Push Square, PS5 gamers have long been making a fuss about the PS4 backward compatibility of Disney, which, in turn, only supports the lower resolution.

But this time, the Mickey Mouse maker now finally offers its subscribers using PS5 consoles to watch their movies and series in 4K resolution.

So if the previous 1080p resolution looks blurry or pixelated on your massive 4K television, this new upgrade should address that issue.

HDR Support Arrives at Disney+

Besides the support for higher resolution, the Disney+ relaunch introduces stunning HDR support.

Forbes notes in its report that the HDR support provides a better viewing experience, making the picture look more impressive than ever. It is thanks to the blacker blacks and whiter whites that its improved contrast ratio brings.

The Verge reports that the relaunch of the Disney+ and Star+ apps are now natively made for the PS5. And as such, it could now offer an enhanced viewing experience as it gains 4K HDR playback support.

The Executive Vice President of Product and Design for Disney Streaming, Jerrell Jimerson, says that they are excited about the enhancement of Disney Plus and Star Plus for PS5.

The Disney exec says that "the ability to support 4K HDR video streaming on the platform will also improve the viewing experience for fans."

He further notes that "a key part of our global expansion strategy is to meet consumers wherever they are." So it looks like tons of the users of its streaming service are watching straight from their gaming console.

The new Sony PlayStation 5 gaming console is seen for sale on the first day of its launch, at an electronics shop in Kawasaki, Kanagawa prefecture on November 12, 2020.

It is worth mentioning that other giant streaming services, including Netflix and Amazon Prime Video, readily support 4K resolution on their PS5 apps. Given that, it is high time for the home of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to follow the same route.
